First off, I gotta give y'all this new Wayne joint. What is presumably the first single from the globally-anticipated album, The Carter 4, "6 Foot 7 Foot" samples Harry Belafonte's classic song "Day-O (Banana Boat Song)" to astronomically devastating effect. Seriously, you can see this beat from space. And not only are the beats from Bangladesh (see: "A Milli") out of this atmospher,e but Wayne tears the shit in half, sounding as hungry as he did before he owned the game. The king is back.

Rynecologist of GDD fame and producing excellence has given Bright & Shiny favorite track "Lyposuct" a nice, shall we say, proofreading. This edit takes the original from D.I.M. & TAI from bat-shit insane to insane rhythmic groove. Where the bleeps from the original seemed generally unintelligible, Ryne translates them into something groovy, with structure and distinct instructions to DANCE.

Underground rapper Donnis has been on for a while now but this shit is unprecedented, with Needlz absolutely tearing it up on the beats. The ultimate pregame jam, bump this shit in the whip with a jay in your right and a cup in the left.

A-Trak may be a DJ of legendary stature, but the man rarely puts out original productions in either of his spheres of influence: hip-hop and electro/house. This, however, is one of those rare and fortunate occurrences. The beat is super dope with some clear electro production tricks as inspiration, and the raps are fire, courtesy of CyHi Da Prince who recently signed to Kanye West's label, G.O.O.D. Music.

I knew Tinie Tempah had talent from his collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, but I must admit my general knowledge of the Tempah was straight lacking. This guy is accessible, flows like a motherfucker, and knows exactly what beats he sounds good over. If this track ever makes it to the US mainstream it will become an anthem. Mark my words. It's got all the necessary ingredients: swagger on swagger, "The Hills" references, and a hook about everyone's favorite activity, drinking. Oh and I forgot to mention, the beat fuckin' knocks, play it loud. Thanks to Abboud's french ass for showing me this gem.

Dillon Francis, GDD crew member and Masta Blasta extraordinaire, burst onto the scene earlier this year and made a name for making absolutely filthy dubstep. We're talking positively disgusting. But you all know that dubstep just isn't for us here at Bright & Shiny, although we recognize and appreciate it. Recently, Francis has made a few electro tracks in which he favors an afro-latin beat instead of his go-to dubstep studder, and they've all been absolute cash. Check out his reinterpretation of own his track with DJ Ammo, "Westside." I can just imagine dropping this track in a set at a slightly higher bpm to absolutely devastating effect.

Now I know you come here for your daily dose of electro tunage, but first and foremost I'm about that good music, no matter the genre. Yesterday I was at Rock the Bells at Merriweather Post Pavilion with PK's sister, CK, so today's post is gonna be all about hip-hop with some of the bangers you're used to from me below.

The Wizard of Khalifa put on a surprisingly good show full of Kush & OJ. He even brought out Wale for his verse off the mixtape. Good lookin', Pittsburgh. The crowd jumped to this one.

Lauryn Hill's set was kinda lame, except when she dropped "Ready Or Not". Oh and it was kinda cool when NaS came out for an exclusive verse... To be honest, I didn't even notice (shame on me, I know). I even had to turn around and ask the people standing behind me who it was rapping onstage. When the first word to come out of their mouths was "NaS," I straight lost my shit. Here's my favorite joint from the legendary master of the internal rhyme scheme.

The best set of the day was easily that of A Tribe Called Quest, my favorite hip-hoppers of all time. The Tribe brought out Busta Rhymes, who was rocking a fresh ass Germany track jacket, for his verse on "Scenario." Tip and Phife generally went the fuck off; they played the opening of "Award Tour" and brought it back THREE times, and three times the whole crowd lost their shit. After that, Q-Tip, white tee completely soaked through with sweat, proceeded to literally take off his pants. I've got a video of him running around on stage dancing in his drawers on my phone but I can't figure out how to get it onto my PC.

The Beginning

We decided to create a blog chock-full of good music. We call it Bright & Shiny. Here it is. The first song I'm posting is a joint by Afrojack & Bobby Burns, complete with the screeching car alarms and lush, yet clinical production our favorite Dutchman is known for. Plus, it's got the coolest sample of some kid yelling "GHETTO BLASTAA."

Next is another of Afrojack's recent productions. I'm risking putting two songs from the same artist in my first post 1)because I don't care and 2)this song is fucking nuts. The final drop is so exquisite, with the inclusion of the high-pitched dutch melody over the lower, more expansive synths, that this song lands a spot in my heart and on my rotation for at least the remainder of summer.

Afrojack ft. Eva Simmons - Take Me Over (Original Mix)

This remix from the ATL RMX compilation assembled by Adult Swim doesn't do much other than expound upon the virtues of the original. Whoever DJA is, he's no genius, but he certainly gets the job done. I can't get that higher distorted riff out of my head as it weaves in and out of the beat amidst the uplifting steel drum sample and booming 808's. I hate the dupstep "wobble" that permeates the track, but it's too good to forsake altogether.

And finally, I present the jam of the summer courtesy of grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson. This man makes excellent music across all genres, including pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. An absolute wizard in the studio, this man has created a masterpiece which has undeniable pop appeal and features the stylings of legendary rapper Q-Tip. I like it when the girl sings, too.
