Back To The Beat That Repeats | Megapost

FUTURE/TECHNO
I've basically been tracking down all the most demented, Gesaffelstein-eque future techno that I can get my hands on recently, and one really intriguing artist I've come across in the process is Oblast. This release by them is diabolical and thumping in all the ways that make it entirely appropriate for a dark & lazer-filled room somewhere at 4AM. Check out the full 'ACT 1' EP on beatport: released by Mikix The Cat's Parisian-based ADD Cat imprint.
download: Oblast - Breakdown (Original Mix)

An epic 13 minute techno masterpiece here, straight from the brain of Detroit's resident mad scientist Carl Craig.
download: Cut Copy - Need You Now (Carl Craig Remix)

All you need to know: I grabbed this bad boy of a track from the Gesaffelstein mix above. Bass + Techno =
download: Bubba - We Need A Break (Original Mix)

Up next are two really good Scissor Sister remixes I've acquired recently, but I haven't been able to decide which one is better. Right now I'm leaning towards the Boys Noize effort, those super sharp synths that wash across the track at around 3:30 are Boys Noize at his electro-tech best.
download: Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light (Boys Noize Remix)

download: Scissor Sisters - Only The Horses (Brodinski Remix)

Off of that free Alex Metric EP that he released a month or two ago, this one is a track that I dig more and more every new time I hear it. 'Rave Weapon' collides elements of UK Bass with rapid fire 90s rave stabs and Metric's own impeccably clean production skills.. what more could you ask for?
download: Alex Metric - Rave Weapon (Original Mix)

download: Sound Pelligrino Thermal Team \ Tony Senghore - Bassface (Tony Senghore Remix)

GET DEEP AND FREAK
Hot Since 82 continues to make a name for himself as a deep house magician capable of crafting all sorts of weird late night shenanigan inducing soundwaves. This remix of Chris James is simply next level.
download: Chris James - Nothing Else Matters (Hot Since 82)

Amine Edge impresses us more and more with every new production. This one.. well.. KNOCKS.
download: Spf 5000 - Doorknocker (Amine Edge & DANCE Remix)

Beautiful and funkadelic at the same time, this John Johr dub is a straight up anthem.. I'm in love. From one of our favorite labels around, Culprit LA.
download: Lee Curtiss - Candy feat. Matt Tolfrey (John Johr Dub)

download: Miami Ice - The Way You (Original Mix)

Chris James (1/2 of Coat of Arms alongside Eats Everything) is a dude we've been watching develop for a while now, and this 'retwist' shows him really coming into his own as a producer. this track is an absolute BOMB, and all we can say is we can't wait to see what the dude cooks up next. Find Chris on facebook and beatport.
download: Markus Anthony - Distant Memory (Chris James Retwist)

Old School (think: +5 years old) driving and brooding Dubfire at the pinnacle of what makes his sound so addicting. The breakdown from 3:45-5:00 is pretty much guaranteed to bring the house down any time during any set anywhere in the world...
download: Unkle - Hold My Hand (Dubfire Remix)

One of my favorite tracks from this entire post. That lead synth/bass line is so simple yet incredibly effective at the same time.
download: Nobody Knows - Hundred Trys (Original Mix)

Ghetto Kraviz is a track we've been in love with for a while now. Along with Nina Kraviz. When Jamie Jones dropped this edit of her anthem at Ultra this year though, it was waaaay fatter than we ever could have imagined. On the right sound system (aka a really fucking loud one), the bass here is simply out of control. Go to right before the 4:00 minute mark to get a feel for where Jamie mixed in and how banging the bass was; the track really takes off from there.
download: Nina Kraviz - Ghetto Kraviz (Amine Edge Edit)

Another track where the bass gets more and more devastating the louder you play it, this one is some top notch deepness from one of my favorite labels Gruuv. The Audiojack remix is money as well, check the full release on Beatport.
download: S.K.A.M. - Rush Hour (Original Mix)

H.O.S.H. is another dude who I've gotten super into lately, pretty much everything his name is attached to is guaranteed to be D.O.P.E.
download: Adultnapper - Idiot Fair feat. Black Light Smoke (H.O.S.H. And The Deer Dub)

Bouncing tech house straight outa 2008. Booty Shake Weapon.
download: Worthy - Work The Walls (Magik Johnson's Shake The Walls Remix)

Bonus
These next two don't really fit into either of the two categories above, but are nonetheless quite fresh in their own right. 'Sex' is sleazy electrofunk at it's most chilled out, while the Wax Motif effort is just a bit of really solid electro.
download: Slugabed - Sex (Original Mix)

download: Chromeo - Night By Night (Wax Motif Remix)

Out of The fog

The Well last night was, as it always seems to be, predictably bumping. If there was one common theme throughout the night it was the eclectic selection of sounds represented, with each of the (mostly LA local) DJs on the lineup bringing their own subtle style to the table for an offering that was in retrospect refreshingly diverse; the music literally hit all the bases from the deep end to thumping acid house and everything in between.

Two tracks that stood out in particular were Wax Motif & Neoteric's 2011 summer jam "Go Deep" and the TWR72 anthem "Summer Of '91 (Acid version)".. we've already given both of those tracks plenty of love on here though so instead I'll offer a little variation based off the two of them. First a delicious (even deeper) redub of "go deep" courtesy of Maxxi Soundsystem and second one of my favorite more obscure TWR72 efforts..

[Go Deep full release on Beatport]

download: Alex Metric & Charli XCX - End Of The World (TWR72 Dub)

[TWR72 on Beatport]

And finally sticking with the LA theme, this forthcoming release on Culprit Records is, for lack of any more accurate way to put it, straight up jackin'.

As Heard On Radio Weekend

It's saturday and I can't resist posting some straight up weekend music. These two Bart B More remixes arent necessarily brand new, but I've been playing them a lot recently especially last night. if you've been following Bright & Shiny that long we actually gave you guys the call 911 remix a whiles back but chances are you haven't so cop it below, it's massive.

download: Baskerville - Devil's Town (Bart B More's Stuiter Mix)

download: Florrie - Call 911 (Bart B More Remix)

A freaking killer remix of the Boys Noize/Erol Alkan classic Lemonade by Light Year and The Finger Prince. I have to say, my personal favorite remix is still the Ekstra effort though.
download: Erol Alkan & Boys Noize - Lemonade (Light Year & The Finger Prince Remix)

I told you I'd be coming with the weekend sounds... This Nicky Romero remix is exactly that.
download: Tonite Only - Haters Gonna Hate (Nicky Romero 'Out Of Space' Remix)

If you find yourself grooving tonight, be sure to put this funky jam by Wax Motif on the sound system.
download: Oliver - Dirty Talk (Wax Motif Remix)

These Are Bombs

It's been far too long since I posted around here - what's up with that? I'm not really sure, but I do know that I'm here now with a heaping serving of good music to make up for it. Today's post comes in two sections, first the more mainstream festival-style bangers, and second the more underground side of things, so feel free to browse accordingly. *Also be on the lookout for me and Sir Real's monstrous review of the Electric Zoo festival in New York, which will be coming out in the next couple days.

Festival-Style Bangers
Some of you might have these next two already, so I'll get them over with first, but they're simply too good for me not to post. First off, the new Dada Life is absolutely epic. Olle and Stefan have cooked up another instant classic here following the Dada Life recipe for success: start with a catchy, simple melody, add in some hard-hitting electro, mix in a couple massive build ups, top it all off with some bannanas and champagne, and poof, Happy Violence. Show them some love and grab the release on Beatport here.
Download: Dada Life - Happy Violence (Original Mix)

Next up is the newest release from the Swedish wunderkid everyone's talking about right now - no not Avicii - Alesso, alongside Sebastian Ingrosso from the Swedish House Mafia. This track is pure joy from start to finish. Beatport release.
Download: Alesso & Sebastian Ingrosso - Calling (Original Instrumental Mix)

I'm not particularly crazy about these MC Flipside vocals (or any vocals he's ever done for that matter), but Adrian Lux and Blende make this song well worth listening to with the dope, sort of 80's feeling electro drop that they've fashioned. This track really knocks when its played on the right soundsystem. Check the full release on BEATPORT.
Download: Roger Sanchez & Mobin Master ft. MC Flipside - Worldwide (Adrian Lux & Blende Remix)

Another club-oriented banger, this one is a track that I managed to completely sleep on when it got released a couple months ago. This track isn't your average heavy grinding Felix Cartal electro track, rather it's a tasteful balance of progressive, dutch, and electro influences and the result is a really catchy and highly listenable club banger. A testament to how good this remix is; this is the version Benny himself is dropping in his sets these days instead of the original.
Download: Chris Brown ft. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People (Felix Cartal Club Mix)

Underground Sounds
If you only download one track from this entire post, make sure it's this next one. I simply can't get enough of this remix. "How Deep Is [my] Love" for this remix you might ask? DEEP. VERY DEEP. I'M IN LOVE. I could listen to this song on repeat for days. The thundering piano stabs wash across the track like Picasso's paint strokes across a fresh canvas. They embody everything good and wonderful in this world. And the way that the bass is engineered to make the track really sway without a lot going on is just masterful. Excellent, excellent work by Wax Motif & Neoteric. Busy P dropped this during his set at Electric Zoo the other week and it was simply sublime, but more on that later in our official review.. The coolest part of all this? They gave the track away for free, so you don't have to feel guilty about downloading it below.
Download: The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love (Wax Motif & Neoteric Remix)

Bright & Shiny favorite, Danny Daze from Miami, recently gave away this Madonna bootleg for free on his facebook. What a gentleman. Deep, lush vibes as always from mr. Daze. Check the preview for his forthcoming EP with Matches below too, it looks like it's shaping up to be pretty amazing.
Download: Madonna - Bedtime Stories (Danny Daze Dark Rooms Mix)

Danny Daze & Matches - If This (Original) by Danny Daze

Our friends over at La Bombe sent us this promo the other week, and I have to say, this track is definitely a 'bombe'. Dutch duo TWR72 give the classic 'Hysterisis' by our homeboy Sharooz a pulsing, absolutely mental reworking here. This remix has already been supported by the likes of Brodinski, NT89, and PeaceTreaty among others and I can see why. The track was released yesterday on Beatport, be sure to grab a copy HERE.
Sharooz - Hysteresis (TWR72 Remix) by La Bombe

And finally to round things out, The Bingo Players give Sander Van Doorn's biggest single of 2011, 'Koko', a completely sideways and thumping do-over with their remix. Reminds me a lot of their remix of 'Welcome Home', in the best way possible. Can you say massive?

Catching Z's

As mentioned on our facebook page and twitter, we're looking for talented graphic designers to join the Bright & Shiny team and help us out with our next project. If you or someone you know would be interested or would like to know more, shoot us an e-mail at admin@brightshinymusic.com. And now for the music.

Turbo Recordings ZZAfrika Remix compilation drops digitally in two days. Featuring remixes from the likes of Lightyear, Tomas Andersson, Crowdpleaser, and many more, you're not going to want to miss it. The leaked Gesaffelstein remix seems to be getting the most attention, with Busy P already calling it the remix of the year. I've got Julio Bashmore's re-work today as well: a much more melodic, down-tempo lick to lounge to.

Now, it seems to me it's been a bit too long since we've posted some quality disco-inspired funk. I hope to fix that problem with the next couple of songs, starting off with a classic french house sounding remix from Broke One.

Digitalfoxglove (DFG) first came to my attention with his slick remix of Louis La Roche's "My Turn". As mentioned in his bio, he's very much into those more mysterious, dreamy, and melodic sounds, something that is evident with "Someone Else". The track grips you right from the beginning with a steadily building intro and continues to hold on with an intricate blend of 80's style synths and vocal effects.

Aeroplane dropped this number from Rex the Dog when Patrick and I saw him on Wednesday to great effect. With those captivating chord progressions, it's easy to see (*hear) why. Speaking of Aeroplane, we had the fortune of catching up with Vito after the concert for an interview, so be on the lookout for that very soon!

Broke One's Stop Making Sense EP dropped pretty recently, featuring his original "Go Go Go" along with a slew of remixes from house heavy hitters like Treasure Fingers and Evil Nine, whose re-workings I have below. They're both highly enjoyable, though I'm partial to Evil Nine's quirkier interpretation. Check out the full release on beatport here.

Bonus Trax:

(Thanks to Jeremy Abbott for the heads up on this one)
