Mixes: Coat of Arms & Fur Coat

Forget Mixtape Sundays, this is mixtape Wednesday. Check out these monster mixes from a pair of our favorite twosomes: Coat of Arms & Fur Coat.

First up is a deeply sexual mix from Venezuelan duo and recent Crosstown Rebels signees, Fur Coat. The mix is replete with hard-edged, yet classy deep house bangers that are sure to get booties shaking at all hours of the day.  It so vividly reminds me of the techno journey known as "Get Lost Miami" that I get goose bumps just listening to it. And if you haven't heard Fur Coat's underground anthem "You and I" yet, then your life needs some direction. Get it together.

Next is a mix from Coat of Arms, the British duo comprised of Chris James (Birmingham) and Eats Everything (Bristol), and is sure to be in my rotation for most of May. Equal parts bass and house, this mix is a touch more upbeat; perfect for the house head trying to understand what all this Bristol fuss is about. If this kind of thing suits your fancy, and it will, be sure to keep your eyes glued to your browser for our interview with Eats Everything (now a month in the making). It's coming.

Mixtape Sunday: Episode 001

This is the first installment of our newest feature, which is every Sunday we're gonna start trying to share mixes that we enjoy (even though it's technically now early Monday as I'm writing this). We'll try and keep 'em diverse too, the focus will be more on quality and interestingness than necessarily being brand new or from big name artists. I found myself relistening to this Friendly Fires mix today that they did for Resident Advisor last fall, and let me just say it really hits the spot in all the right ways. Way more eclectic and dance floor-oriented than you'd probably expect from the UK band.

On the other hand is this mix all the way from our friend Zooash in Germany, and it's a really nice blend of banging techno that starts fast and stays on point all the way through. Plus it contains a bunch of unreleased, really fresh tracks, like the very first one. Stay up on all things Zooash by following his Soundcloud and Facebook.

Bright & Shiny Exclusive Mix by Keljet

Indie-disco outfit Keljet has been kind enough to whip us up a fantastic exclusive mix.  Hailing from the Netherlands, these boys have seen a quick rise to popularity and after one listen to this mixtape, I think you can tell why.  Only a couple years into their music making careers, and we can already hear a mature sound beyond their experience level.  They have released three new original tracks over the past month, the most recent being a collaboration with Falcon Punch, which are all featured on this mix. Keljet was even generous enough to grace us with their unreleased remix of Wynter Gordon's 'Til Death'. One of those recently released originals, Laserflies, is currently in the top 50 on Hypemachine and still climbing. Their remixes of everyone from Temper Trap to Passion Pit are all classics that have earned them admiration and fans worldwide, be sure to head over to their soundcloud to grab them, or check out a couple down below the mix.  Now get on your dancing shoes and crank that volume.

Exclusive Bright & Shiny Mixtape by Zooash: Tekno Excursion Edition

Bright & Shiny is proud to present to you, our lovely readers, an exclusive mix from up-and-coming German DJ/producer Zooash. More on him in a moment, but for now let me tell you that this mix should not be played in the vicinity of the mentally unstable, small children, or evangelical Christians. If it is pounding, pounding techno music you seek, then look no further. The Exclusive Bright & Shiny Mix by Zooash: Tekno Excursion Edition is here to sate your desires and take you on an tekno journey of insane proportion. And now a word from the mix's architect...

“Massive Beats for the Bourgeoisie”

Since the fall of 2010, the name Zooash has been synonymous with huge breaks, massive electro vibes and European nights filled with the sounds of acid. But Zooash isn’t just a new face in the scene. In fact, he’s worked on various electronica-projects since 2008, lending him prodigious production skill and veteran-status in the game. But Zooash doesn’t stop there; he is also one half of techno/electro duo “D!ZKO DANZE”, based in Dresden. On top of all that, Zooash is also a member of CATBOT,” a Hyperjazz-Duo from Portland, OR. Yeah, this dude makes HYPERJAZZ when he’s not mixing pounding techno tracks or punching Grizzly bears in the mouth.

These days, Zooash is enjoying considerable success, with his mixes receiving big support from the likes of Dem Slackers, Wazabi, Vecho, Beens, Mr. Skeleton and the crazy guys from Mako Records. Just in 2010, Zooash supported the Green Label Sound family on Chromeo’s “Business Casual Tour” alongside Holy Ghost!. Keep a look out for his upcoming, premier releases on Freaks Like Us Records and Klangekstase Records. And be sure to check out his facebook and soundcloud for all the newest Zooash remixes, edits, and mixes.
