FUTURE/TECHNO
I've basically been tracking down all the most demented, Gesaffelstein-eque future techno that I can get my hands on recently, and one really intriguing artist I've come across in the process is Oblast. This release by them is diabolical and thumping in all the ways that make it entirely appropriate for a dark & lazer-filled room somewhere at 4AM. Up next are two really good Scissor Sister remixes I've acquired recently, but I haven't been able to decide which one is better. Right now I'm leaning towards the Boys Noize effort, those super sharp synths that wash across the track at around 3:30 are Boys Noize at his electro-tech best.

Off of that free Alex Metric EP that he released a month or two ago, this one is a track that I dig more and more every new time I hear it. 'Rave Weapon' collides elements of UK Bass with rapid fire 90s rave stabs and Metric's own impeccably clean production skills.. what more could you ask for?

GET DEEP AND FREAK
Hot Since 82 continues to make a name for himself as a deep house magician capable of crafting all sorts of weird late night shenanigan inducing soundwaves. This remix of Chris James is simply next level.

Chris James (1/2 of Coat of Arms alongside Eats Everything) is a dude we've been watching develop for a while now, and this 'retwist' shows him really coming into his own as a producer. this track is an absolute BOMB, and all we can say is we can't wait to see what the dude cooks up next. Old School (think: +5 years old) driving and brooding Dubfire at the pinnacle of what makes his sound so addicting. The breakdown from 3:45-5:00 is pretty much guaranteed to bring the house down any time during any set anywhere in the world...

One of my favorite tracks from this entire post. That lead synth/bass line is so simple yet incredibly effective at the same time.

Ghetto Kraviz is a track we've been in love with for a while now. Along with Nina Kraviz. When Jamie Jones dropped this edit of her anthem at Ultra this year though, it was waaaay fatter than we ever could have imagined. On the right sound system (aka a really fucking loud one), the bass here is simply out of control. Go to right before the 4:00 minute mark to get a feel for where Jamie mixed in and how banging the bass was; the track really takes off from there.

Another track where the bass gets more and more devastating the louder you play it, this one is some top notch deepness from one of my favorite labels Gruuv. The Audiojack remix is money as well, check the full release on Beatport.

Welcome to Nineteen Ninety Twelve

After the shamanistic beat session that was Verboten in NYC the other night for new years, pretty much all I can think about is deep house. So that's what you're about to get. Not all these tracks are necessarily thaaat new, but I think they're all straight up great and I suspect after a listen you'll feel the same way too.

Allow me to introduce, Tanner Ross. An up and comer probably most famous for his "B Side / 4 U" release on Art Department's No. 19 label, the dude has a sultry and refreshing sound that seems like it belongs to someone well beyond his age. This first one, a collaboration with fellow bostonians Soul Clap came out on the legendary Wolf + Lamb imprint earlier this year - check the full EP on beatport.

Worthy brings a UK bass twist to the deep end here, and with lyrics like this it's a track that seems hand crafted for eliciting pure peak time lunacy deep in the night on a dance flo. Get 'cho arithmetic  on.

Weekend Glow

 I'm finding it hard to accept that summer is actually over, which is something I unfortunately had to confront with my first day of classes starting today at 8 in the morning.. Luckily it's thursday which means the weekend is upon us and I can pretend like it's still summer for at least a couple more days. I've got a selection of massive tracks to help jumpstart your weekend so you can pretend like me that it's still the golden season for a little bit longer. Or at least they'll help you rage like it.

This first track comes from Myon and Shane 54, who you might remember for their awesome bootleg of Wonderwall. They've done it again here with a really catchy and listenable big room remix of A Million Stars by BT. I really like this sort of electro-tinged approach to progressive house that seems to be getting used more and more these days. Reminds me a lot of Alesso.

Next up I have the latest from Bright & Shiny homeboy and fellow UCSB student Ekstra along with Dave Tannin: an absolutely bomb bootleg of the Carte Blanche remix of  Scissor Sisters' classic 'Any Which Way.' The bootleg, which honestly sounds more like an official remix, is a straight up  stomper with a hard knocking electro drop. This next track is a bit different from the last two, falling way further on the tech house spectrum, but it's nonetheless just as gigantic. This has been a staple in sets recently by all stars like Claude Vonstroke and J. Phlip, and for good reason. This track is absolutely badass. The 808 drums in it take you straight back to the jackin' 90s but with a fresh, bass-heavy 2011 style to it. Eats Everything has emerged recently to be one of our favorite up and coming artists at Bright & Shiny, start listening at the build at 2:45 to see why. LA Riots decided to release their personal mix of the MSTRKRFT classic 'Bounce' for free on their facebook the other day. It's a  party-ready, absolutely jumping track, perfectly tailored for destroying dancefloors. Weekend approved.

Another party starter that's perfect for the weekend, Chuckie's latest remix of Joachim Garraud goes back to his traditional bouncy dutch style, and it's good to see Chuckie back at what he does best because for a while it seemed like he was wandering into kind of generic electro-house type stuff. This track isn't released yet, but you can grab the 320 copy below cause we're good like that.

Finally to round things out this next track is from the (way) deeper end of the spectrum. I found it alongside some other high quality deepness on the Beatport September Deep House Chart. The bass and vocal sample on it are outrageously catchy. House Nation. Bump this on a quality sound system to truly appreciate the old school jackin' vibes on this one.
