Weekend Selector: Take a Hit Get Clipped

What better way to start off the weekend than in the deep end? First up we have this absolute bomb of a track from Maceo Plex's own Ellum Audio "Sleazy Riders Collection" that comes out just in time for Miami. Head over to Beatport to scope the full compilation, the other efforts are definitely worth checking out, my two picks in particular being the Lukatron and Sync Mode trax. Get loose. Each release on leftroom seems to be bigger than the last. If you're gonna be in Miami next week, wednesday has a bunch of absolutely ridiculous parties (more on that in our official guide) but Culprit vs Leftroom is definitely one of our picks. The lineup ranges from bristol bass-ers Waifs & Strays to Lee Foss, Laura Jones, Droog, Inxec, Jozif, and the man behind this next track, Gavin Herlihy... Yeah, you could say "stacked."

Huxley is a dude I've really been getting into more and more recently. This track in particular is an all time effort from him full of swinging bass and classic piano stabs.

Deetron taking a bit more of a techno approach here, but still sprinkles on his typical amount of swiss melodic magic like only he knows how. This one really takes off in the second half. Like, really takes off.

A massive Casino Times remix of the new Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs single.. pretty much a combination guaranteed to lead to amazingness, this one is deeper than a lot of TEED's stuff but manages to really hit the spot. Can't wait for the full release on April 2nd.

I have to say I'm not usually a fan of mashups at all, but our DC homeboy Sean Johnson sent over his classic rock vs progressive house mashup pack the other day and something about these tracks is really awesome. Sweet Sensation

Few things in the world get us more excited than a new Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs release. With that said, one of the few things capable of getting us more excited is a new FREE teed release. This track off of his new album came out for free for one day only on itunes UK, but for those of us not fortunate enough to live in the kingdom of great britain (such as myself) it's not so easy to download... We've been singing Lone's praises practically since the dawn of time, and that's not really about to stop. However, every release I find by him seems to confirm that he's even more versatile than I previously thought, as this next remix shows. It's all typical Lone for the first minute, until it veers off into delirium-inducing dance mania with a huge bassline and fat percussion. Check the release on Cheap Thrills.

The Germans know their techno, and that is a fact. This thumping techno thoroughbred was released on Boys Noize Records' sub-label BNR Trax last year and I've kept it in my dj bag as sort of a secret weapon ever since. I'll probably catch some flack for posting this next one, but honestly it's too big for me to resist. I know Angger Dimas is only credited with a "Featuring" on this track, but his influence is waaay more visible here than Aoki's (I think it's obviously just labeled that way because this track is on Aoki's next album). Anyway, for those of you drawn to the more big room sounds, this is one you won't want to miss.

Halloween House

Here are some tracks to get weird to on this fine Halloween evening.  I've amassed some fat ass beats in the last month that need some sharin' with you, the fine people of the Bright & Shiny Nation.  Play all of these with loads of bass and lots of decibels.

BRISTOL
The fine people of Bristol, UK have been holding it down as of late, which should come as no surprise considering they're changing the face of dance music as we know it.  With a little bit of bass and a lot of love, these fine young men have been churning out the best beats in the business.

First up is Coat of Arms, composed of two B&S future-hall-of-famers: Dan Pearce AKA Eats Everything, and Chris James (who's actually from Birmingham, but who's counting?).

Waifs & Strays, also of Bristol, make bouncing tech house which is very characteristic of their fine city, but a little techier than most.

Eats Everything has been blowing up the BBC Radio 1 airwaves as of late with their support of his recent releases.  With support from Pete Tong, Jaymo & Andy George, as well as Annie Mac, you know this man's got some talent.  See if you can spot the sample in this one.

Subb-an is another fine fellow from the UK.  Dunno anything about him really, because Augustus showed me this track last week and I've listened to it at least once daily since.  Funky ass deep ass trax.

Tim Green, also of the UK (surprise!) has been a favorite producer of mine since I heard his remix of "Live Those Days Tonight" last June, and this track channels the same bouncy, happy house vibes that made that one so special.

TEED is, how you say in American....? The man.  He's so prolific in so many styles with such consistency it makes my head spin.  This one's a little deeper than most his tracks, and I love it. Props to Crosstown Rebels on the excellent remix commission on this one.

Y'all better know about Azari & III by now.  They're bringing that analog, diva house sound back like its 1999.

Art & Soul

The new Jan Driver EP, AMT, which dropped on the 5th on Boys Noize Records, is a fearsome collection of electro & techno noises that I highly recommend to all of you, with each track guaranteed to pack a fat fucking punch on any decent subs. My two picks from the assortment have to be "Golden Super" and "Raveyard". The former happens to be the black sheep of the release in that it strays away from those darker sounds, instead providing the listener with more than a healthy serving of thick-cut funk. The latter couldn't be more different, dishing out scary amounts of heaviness and distortion rather than happy bass-lines. As I said before, they're all worth a listen, so check 'em out through beatport here and grab the promo quality mix of "Raveyard" below.

I feel like it's been a while since we posted some more disco-y, filter house type jams on here, but fortunately I just got a hold of these two guys and I haven't been able to hit the pause button on either yet. The first is a remix of a Spiller track from a young gun who helped get me so into the EDM scene in the first place, Louis La Roche. The second is an edit from Italian disco king His Majesty Andre off the latest Ridney release. Both are uplifting, disco inspired anthems that pack the perfect amount of punch, and that you won't stop dancing to if you got any sense in you.

This very well may be my favorite track of the entire summer, coming from none other than T.E.E.D., who has seen a meteoric rise in popularity in the dance music world recently. It's tracks like this one that show why everyone's all over this dude. He gives Friendly Fires the remix treatment here, blending some sun-drenched, almost low-fi sounds with brilliantly knockin' percussion and vocal chop-ups (lots of hyphens in that one). It'd be criminal to give this one in full quality freely, so grab a 192 copy below to hold you over and support the release on beatport for that 320 goodness (it's so worth it).

Always love getting stuff from the La Bombe label, which was started by one of our favorite producers (and past interviewee) Sharooz. They sent over this monster release from their own BEENS and Dachstuhl and even a quirky remix from Southern Fried's Nom De Strip. Both are bass heavy fiyuh breathers, check out the previews below and mark your calendars for the beatport release on the 15th!

And finally, I share with you all a preview of "Blotter", a new, acid filled & french touch inspired track from Decalicious off their Blotter Notes EP, soon to be released on Guys N Dolls Records. I cannot wait to grab a full copy of this track, which has already seen big support from huge acts like Mixhell, Shameboy, and even Digitalism on their latest tour. This is the first I've heard from this duo but I strongly doubt it will be the last; keep an eye out EP's drop on the 15th.

Ok guys, I have a real treat for you today. Granted, this is an electronic music blog, but this is too exciting for me not to post about. The Strokes have a new album coming out on March 21st and I am filled with wonderful anticipation. They've been releasing tracks from the upcoming album and I am very pleased with what I've heard. I'm an F-18, Bro

I've said it before and I'll say it again; I love RAC. They are wizards when it comes to remixing. They choose such subtle and cohesive instrumentation and they keep the integrity of the song while still drastically improving upon it. Roughly three years ago, RAC released a remix album called RAC VOL 1 that was critically acclaimed and really laid the groundwork for this awesome collective. Today, March 4th, they have finally released their second volume on their website and it's FREE. Below are two tracks that I've been abusing over the past week ever since I heard them, but if you fancy yourself a music enthusiast, you should just hop on over to their website and download the entire album in a nice little .zip file (or just click here).

Dance Ritual was founded in 1998 by two of dance music's most respected artists, Louie Vega and Joe Claussell. The two wanted to create a party without musical boundaries, where African, Jazz, Latin, Soul, Gospel, R&B, and Brazilian sounds would blend through house forms. Vega is unquestionably a major force in house music, both as a producer and DJ, and Dance Ritual is his cultural and spiritual home. Now, Quinten 909 uploaded this track to his soundcloud 1 month ago, but just recently decided to make it available for download out of the kindness in his own heart. French/Disco House master does it again. Repetitive but insatiably pleasing to the ears, You're My Friend will undoubtedly soothe your troubled brain.
