Blisspop & Red Fridays Present: Fred Falke & Lifelike TOMORROW

WASHINGTON, DC-- Tomorrow night at U Street Music Hall, Blisspop & Red Fridays Present Fred Falke & Lifelike in their DC debut.  You'd be a fool to pass this one up.

And guess what?  The first person to tag our facebook page in their status wins a FREE pair of tickets for the show!

Come out for what is sure to be a glorious night of uplifting nu-disco vibes - but don't just take our word for it:

Blisspop and Red Fridays presents the D.C. debut of Fred Falke and Lifelike with an opening set from Volta Bureau’s Micah Vellian. Since the release of “Intro,” a collaboration between Fred Falke and long-time partner Alan Braxe, Falke has become a worldwide staple within the sounds of French house and nu-disco. From 2000-2008, Falke and Braxe became two of the most in-demand producers and remixers; taking on projects from Jamiroquai, Goldfrapp, Kelis and Justice. As a solo producer, artist and DJ, Falke has continued to push the French touch sound re-working tracks for La Roux, Lykke Li, U2, Gossip and Little Boots.

Lifelike’s first release “The Soul Of My Love” (2001) landed him a spot releasing tracks through one of the biggest Parisian underground labels, Vulture. From there, his 2005 release, “Discopolis” was one of the biggest underground sellers of 2005; entering the official U.K. Top 40 that summer and earned remixes from Chris Lake, Kerri Chandler and Alan Braxe. Remixing for the likes of Moby, Chromeo, Empire Of The Sun and Chromeo and regularly appearing in the set lists of Thomas Bangalter, Lifelike has been rightfully celebrated as one of the most talented producers out of France.

On The Edge

Robbie Rivera's most recent release, Imagine, is a massive slice of big room house that's jam packed with summer vibes. The release comes with two different versions, the 'afterhours mix' and the 'main club mix'. While they're both great, it's the main club mix that really takes the cake; the breakdown from the 4-5 minute mark is about as huge and amazing as anything I've heard this year. Turn this one up and let the good times roll.
Robbie Rivera - Imagine (Main Club Mix)

This next track by Arno Cost is legitimately so big I'm having a hard time coming up with adjectives to explain it,  I really don't think there are any that capture its sheer largeness. This is progressive house at its finest; almost 8 minutes of unrelenting fist-pumping awesomeness. Find a ridiculous sound system and play this as loud as you can for your own good.
Arno Cost - Lise (Original Mix)

An older Disco of Doom track that I stumbled upon recently. These guys really have a knack for making twistedly funky and awesomely produced tracks. Everything about this one screams "dance".
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - These New Knights (Disco of Doom Remix)

Next up we have Diplo's most recent release. This track features a bleepy sort-of dancehall feel that we've come to know diplo for, and it's a pretty nice little stomper that I could see pumping through some dark basements this summer. Also it gets bonus points for the dope Beatles sample that comes in just before the 1st minute mark.
Diplo & Douster - ON !

Mirage is the newest track from progressive house legend Pryda (aka Eric Prydz). I was bumping this track in the car with one of my fellow Bright & Shiny writers Patrick last night and he mentioned that the opening build on this one made him feel like he was floating on a cloud or something. I'd have to agree, this one has a really airy, almost ethereal feel to it. Another chunk of progressive gold from mr Prydz.
Pryda - Mirage (Original Mix)

'Drift' is the product of an epic collaboration between two titans of progressive house, Adam K and Funkagenda. The track features a seriously catchy melody that gets explored in traditional progressive fashion, and it really pumps when it hits the drop. If you're like me this will be stuck in your head for days.
Adam K & Funkagenda - Drift (Original Club Mix)

BONUS Adam K/Funkagenda
Adam K - Hits Are For Kids (Original Mix)

Adam K & Kaskade - Raining (dance.love Edit)

Funkagenda - H3lix (Club Mix)

Also check this preview of Fred Falke's upcoming remix. It's a little on the pop side, but that piano hook is so catchy I don't even care, this is gorgeous.

Grab Bag

Today's post is a serious grab bag of epic proportions. I've got complete fire from all parts of the electronic music spectrum, from disco to trance and everything in between. In the words of Lil Wayne, we goin' in..

Fred Falke completely slays this remix, as usual from the genius Frenchman. When Mattie Safers' vocals come in around 1:15 they drop as the perfect counterpoint to Uffie's singing, this song is literally so funky and amazing it's stupid. Grab it now for endless amounts of dancing.
Uffie feat. Mattie Safer - Illusion of Love (Fred Falke Remix) [Download]

Gregori Klosman has been one of our favorite young producers out of the Netherlands for a while now. His dutch flavored style of tech house is as unique as it is powerful, and his newest track Low Battery might be his greatest accomplishment yet. The track veers all over the place in completely insane fashion, swerving from pounding tech beats to a progressive house buildup and back into dutch style lunacy all in a 6 minutes so packed with energy it's absurd. Grab this track now if you know what's good for you.
Gregori Klosman - Low Battery (Original Mix) [Download]

A mega bomb edit of Wolfgang Gartner's newest single.
Wolfgang Gartner feat. Will I Am - Forever (Paul David Mix) [Download]

Steve Angello shows off the versatility of his production skills here, proving he's just as adept at making groovier classic house as he is at putting together thumping club bangers. Grab this one off beatport from the great Ibiza Opening 2011 Compilation.
Ikon - Do You Dream (Steve Angello Remix) [Download]

Avicii strikes gold again; the drop on this one will have you fist pumping like there's no tommorow. Not so crazy about the vocals, but honestly everything else about this song is so amazing it doesn't matter.
Shermanology & Tom Hangs - Blessed (Avicii Edit) [Download]

More bass heavy fire from Skrillex. Only complaint is I wish he used a bit more of the amazing 'Disco Rangers' vocal sample...
Skrillex - Disco Rangers 2011 (Original Mix) [Download]

Shit Robot is a group I've been curious about for a while now. For the longest time I wasn't familiar with any of their music, but they're signed to DFA, James Murphy's super-label (home to acts like LCD Soundsystem and Holy Ghost!), so I figured they must have some serious talent, especially since they've managed to get away with a name as terrible as Shit Robot for this long. It turns out, they're really awesome. The track I have for you today by them features awesome vocals from Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem, The Juan Maclean) and a synth line from heaven that combine to make what can only be described as pure disco gold.
Shit Robot - Take Em Up [Download]

I originally found this song from this video I was watching of a Harvard Bass dj set. In case you're too lazy to watch it, when the track drops the crowd goes absolutely mental. Actually, they were going mental before this track dropped but that's only because Harvard Bass is a total G. Anyway, the bass on this is so dirty its goddamn retarded.
RipTide - Fk Me (Original Mix) [Download]

I know we tend to stay away from the Trance, but these next two are completely incredible despite their somewhat trancey styles. The first track, Hi Scandinavia by Matisse and Sadko feels like it was made specifically to be blasted as loud as humanly possible. I suggest you do it. Second up, Superman by Mat Zo is more on the trance side but it's equally as amazing and worth grabbing.
Matisse & Sadko - Hi Scandinavia! (Original Mix) [Download]

Mat Zo - Superman (Original Mix) [Download]

Finally, to close things out I bring you R3hab's remix of Lady Gaga's newest single Judah. I hate Lady Gaga, so the fact that I'm posting this at all should be an indicator of how completely off the rocker this track is.. R3hab goes to an unprecedentedly huge level here, throwing in some spacious progressive house sections to balance out a completely insane dutch house drop. (Shouts out to Brento for showing me this)

Talk Is Cheap

Less talk, more...music.

NC vunderkid
Porter Robinson smaashes "Seek Bromance" with this remix the way he seems to smash everything he touches, by slamming together the dirtiest bits of trance, electro, and dubstep into one filthy sound. Not recommended: playing this anywhere near the vicinity of your local retirement home.
Tim Berg - Seek Bromance (Porter Robinson Remix)

Some deeper, proggy type goodness from a man who grows nearer and dearer to my heart with each release I hear from him: Bass Kleph. Beauutiful drop around the 4:00 minute mark.
Jesse Voorn - Somewhere (Bass Kleph Remix)

The French just do it better. The piano synth line in his remix from Ed Banger all star DJ Mehdi is absurd. Everything else ain't bad either.
Eli Escobar - Love Thing Pt. 2 (DJ Mehdi Club Remix)

It's hard to resist checking out some good o'l Bart B More that I haven't heard before. Stumbled upon this edit yesterday as I was browsing through some older Fred Falke goodness. The Dutchman takes an absolute classic from Falke and his longtime co-worker Alan Braxe and gives it a bit more thump, certainly making it easier to mix with, but still maintaining its original sound and feel. How about I give you both?
Fred Falke & Alan Braxe - Intro

Fred Falke & Alan Braxe - Intro (Bart B More Edit)

The musical marriage of two disco-house heavy hitters could never be a bad thing. Second City Rhythm, aka longtime friends Ghosts of Venice and Adulture, just released their first production for free on their soundcloud. If that's not a deal I don't know what is.
Second City Rhythm - You Got Me

And finally, I give you a preview for a release I'm verrry excited about.I hope Highbloo is on everyone's radar at this point, cause the dude's got talent. "Time to Change Pt. 2" sounds like a dance-floor destroyer. Is that a Michael Jackson sample?

You think you invented being bad?

Here's some pretty cool stuff:

Fare Soldi just does it better. Santana Pasta and Luka Carnifull make up this disco loving Italian duo and they're here to make you dance. And dance you shall.

A seriously bass driven Flashworx remix of a sassy Rosin Murphy single. Compelling track, as per usual with Mr. Hammer.

Burns, Fred Falke, Mix Chopin, and Ghosts of Venice all brought together on one track? I wonder what genre this one is gonna be. (Just kidding I don't).

Poka is setting some new standards in French house recently despite his Greek nationality. Right as you think things might be getting a wee bit repetitive, he drops in the vocals. Hook, line, sinker.

Remix Artist Collective (RAC) is a powerhouse of talent. Comprised of three artists, these guys manage to pump out consistently superb remixes as well as individually being involved in many other creative ventures from Entourage to Ra Ra Riot.

Now this track is a bit of a curve ball. As you may or may not know, I'm an avid indie music enthusiast. I love my Ra Ra Riot, my Fleet Foxes, my Vampire Weekend. Today though, the focus is on Noah and the Whale's new single: Wild Thing. Infectious guitar riffs, warm atmospheric synths, calming vocals, interesting lyrics. Check it oooouuuuuutttttttt yeah?

BONUS:

So I'm really struggling here. There's this amazing Shinichi Osawa album that recently came out, and along with it, a remix album titled SO2. There are several amazing remixes on this album and I'd really love to buy it, but this Japanese itunes thing is tripping me up so much so that I remain without this fantastic collection of songs. Remixes from Hidden Cat, Cosmonaut Grechko, LightsOverLA, The Kids are Radioactive, Fabian, and the list goes on. My personal favorite is a very Japanese-y sounding funky remix of Love Will Guide You by Robotaki.

If you manage to find out how to buy it, you can rest assured it's money well spent.

Carte Blanche and Kid Sister really Do! Do! Do! it right with their newest video - watch it!

Love, Patrick

Move On Up

All of us here at Bright & Shiny have absolutely loved Neon Indian and his first release, Psychic Chasms, since it emerged as champion of the lo-fi movement in the Spring of 2009. Now Alan Palomo is back with a new track, and hopefully an LP to follow.
Neon Indian - Sleep Paralysist

Back in the '08 this shit was my jam. Little did I know I was listening to a 128kbps set rip as I cruised around in my '95 Ford Explorer. Now I have for you the full quality release, as JFK has decided to make it available for free download on his soundcloud because he can't legally sell the track.
Usher - Love In This Club (Mstrkrft Remix)

After a long wait, the much-anticipated collaboration between the legendary producer Fred Falke and British minor-leaguer Burns has been released. As expected, it is, by all accounts, fucking bomb. This disco-house chune is a Grade-A track if I've ever heard one.
Fred Falke, Burns - Y.S.L.M. (You Stopped Loving Me)

THE CLUBHAUS

BNR wunderkind Djedjotronic gets clever on us with this bootleg, mashing Soulwax set-staple "Frequency" into the drop of Avicii's Dumb Dumb Remix of "Boogers," making himself a nice little club monster. Raw electro and deep vibes all in one place: it doesn't get much better than this.
Altern8 - Frequency (Djedjotronic Bootleg)

Somewhere over the last month I started loving tech house. Call in a conservative reaction to the absurdist electro I've been inundating my brain with, but I just can't get enough of this deep shit. This remix from Christian Smith gets my blood flowing and sets my foot tapping.
Funk D'Void - Flealife (Christian Smith Remix)

Everybody's Singin

Whattup everyone. I've got more new tunes that I'm pumped to share today. Acquiring these babies has gotten me through the week so far; they're guaranteed to help you finish out yours. From some fresh nu-disco to electro bangers, no matter what you're yearnin' for today, I've got what you need.

Porter Robinson. This North Carolina whiz kid topped the Beatport charts at only 18 years old with his genre-smashing hit "Say My Name". He's only getting better guys. Here's one of his latest releases, chock full of dubsteppy wobbles, electro-house hooks, and a dirty vocal sample. Beware the Porter Robinson takeover.

More North Carolina produced goodness, this time from Bright & Shiny favorite Hidden Cat. Known for spitting out some dreamy, trance-inducing remixes, with this original he shows us a bit of his harder side. Love it.

Delectable Dem Slackers remix from Evil Nine. This UK duo bring along a classic house sound and signature vocal chop-ups to every mix. And is it just me, or is everyone using those synths from Soulwax's remix of "Frequency"?

Back to the lighter side, I have a maaagnificent remix from His Majesty Andre of Voodoo Chilli's "Love Songs". Everything about this song is so damn funky it's almost too much. No, actually it's just right.

Alright guys. I give up. Honestly, Treasure Fingers is too good. I can't get enough of this Atlantian's stuff. Found this track floating around the web the other day, and instantly fell in love. The vocals, the bassline, the drums, everything fits together so well it's redonkulous. And did I mention it's really good?

To finish, I leave you with the hilarious video for Burns and Fred Falke's new collaboration Y.S.L.M. (You Stopped Loving Me). I could not be more excited for this to be released.

And, as if that wasn't enough, here's the Treasure Fingers remix to hold you over until the original is released.

Beauty..

is simplicity. (round 2)

HOMEWORK
For today's homework we'll be looking at a dude named Russ Chimes whose beautiful remixes have been bumping nonstop from my speakers over the last couple of days. He's got a new EP coming out called Midnight Club which happens to have an awesome 3 piece music video/disco-opera-movie-thing to go along with it. I highly recommend you check it out (it's below the songs).

Going Away

Since I'll be riding in a random shit filled car tomorrow for 14 hours as I go off to St. Louis, I've decided to leave you all with a going away gift a bit early. The songs I have today are especially delectable. Eat em up.

I'll start things off with a very well done remix from UNC whiz kid, Hidden Cat. This isn't any face-pounding banger or get-on-the-dance-floor jam, but it's oh so nice.
Dirty Projectors - Stillness in the Move (Hidden Cat Remix)

Don't know anything about these LOL Boys, but they did a damn good job with this. This remix of AC Slater's "Hello" sounds absolutely nothing like the original, but that doesn't mean it isn't amazing. Very low-key.
AC Slater - Hello (LOL Boys Sunday Sunrise Remix)

Coma Cat + Go Go Bizkitt. Enough said.
Tensnake - Coma Cat! (Go Go Bizkitt Remix)

This Grum beauty really gets going late in the track.
Grum - Want U

PUNCHES, a Brooklyn duo comprised of two twin brother DJ's, have been putting a fresh spin on that disco house sound recently, as you'll see with this remix. Lovin the vocal sample.
Au Revoir Simone - Only You Can Make You Happy (PUNCHES Remix)

Fantastic remix from Aeons.
Amy Meredith - Young at Heart (Aeons Remix) [REMOVED BY REQUEST]

This last one is by far and away my favorite. It's incredible. Fred Falke and Alan Braxe by themselves produce gold. Together, they can do no wrong.
Jamiroquai - Alright (Fred Falke and Alan Braxe Remix)

-PK

Because I can.

The Only - Top of the Jam (Autoerotique Remix)
