In A Dream

I'll begin this post the way I seem to begin many summer days. Out of a grogginess; out of a haze: out of the dream world and into the sun of the day. Pyramid is a young artist from France whose hallucinatory brand of hip-hop inflected electronic music conveys that essence perfectly in the form of this remix. Start listening from the beginning and you'll see what I mean; the ideal song to have bubbling out of the speakers as you drift back to reality.

Our friend Yooj (of Berlin by San Fran fame) has two big things going on right now that you need to know about. Firstly he gave away this super smooth track for free a couple weeks ago for anyone who likes his facebook page:



and secondly, his 'I Took You In' EP came out the other week on Not Bad Music - needless to say we're pretty excited about it. Each of the two original tracks are dark and sleazy in all the ways that make them perfect for a pulsing dancefloor sometime after 3AM, while the Ron Costa remix adds its own degree of techy flavor to the mix as well. To keep things going with the morning theme from earlier, this Paul Kalkbrenner track is another one I've been finding myself throwing on repeat whenever I want to wake up. Simple, raw elements mesh together to form a pulse of energy that constantly builds and crescendos over the 8 minutes of the track.

I saw Eric Prydz at the Palladium in LA last month (absolutely incredible) and it completely reawakened my love for the swede's banging style of progressive electro. This classic bootleg is definitely from the harder end of his discography..

I recently came across this free Mosca EP and was really impressed by what the UK garage producer could accomplish within a more traditional house structure. Smooth, unadulterated rhythm with sweetly soulful influences.

I am all about Mercury. The Swiss duo consisting of a former hip-hop DJ and a drummer produce wonderfully soulful, very retro-influenced house music. I came across them for the first time with their remix of Le Le's Breakfast, which is still an all time favorite of mine and is guaranteed to set any party off; if you don't believe me, you've clearly never heard the song or paid attention to its lyrics. Since then, I truthfully can say that I have yet to encounter one of their productions that I don't vibe with immediately. Their latest is a re-work of Zimmer's "Slave To Your Heart", released on the DiscoTexas label. It features an upbeat organ synth chugging along with Jeremy Glenn's vocals and spaced out atmospherics. I really like it. You will really like it. Check it out underneath this sentence that I've just written. And buy it on beatport!

This remix from Siriusmo may be 4 years old, but I don't care because it's amazing and I've re-discovered it. It's probably my favorite Siriusmo remix ever, which is saying something given who Siriusmo is and the insanity he is capable of. Also, it being so old and all doesn't make me feel guilty about putting it up for donwload. Enjoy!

Eats Everything + Essential Mix

Not to toot our own horn or anything, but ever since we here at Bright & Shiny got wind of the uprising being staged in the English city of Bristol, we've been posting, and posting, and posting about it. We simply cannot get enough of the futuristic bass-infused house sounds pouring out of the place, and that's due in no small part to the fine work of Dan Pearce, AKA Eats Everything.  You see, Pearce has a strange affliction which makes him prone to eat everything, and this shows in his productions.  His work pays homage to house and bass-music greats as often as it does to R&B stars of the '90s and early 2000's (a venerable golden age for pop music), like Jagged Edge and Faith Evans. In short,

Eats Everything is putting the black back in house music. 

Since this past spring, his tracks have seen release on Berlin's Pets Recordings and San Fransisco's dirtybird Recordings, with more to come. In addition to being an ace producer, Pearce is an equally talented DJ, peppering his mixes with exclusive 'beefy' reworks that you'll only hear at his hands. So it comes as no surprise that Pete Tong, being the tastemaker that he is, commissioned our friend Eats Everything for an Essential Mix, which aired last Saturday on BBC Radio 1. Recorded live at Bristol In:Motion, the mix is a particularly energetic entry into the series' hallowed halls, and is chock full of exclusive Eats Everything edits and unreleased tracks you're likely to only hear here.
