I first discovered Bubba in a Gesaffelstein mix, and since then he's definitely lived up to that high level of sheer lunacy you'd expect from anything associated with Gesaffelstein, although his style is decidedly on the deeper side of things. And every track with his name on it somehow seems almost overflowing with bass. I'm not complaining. This new remix from him is probably my favorite effort of his so far. I've basically been tracking down all the most demented, Gesaffelstein-eque future techno that I can get my hands on recently, and one really intriguing artist I've come across in the process is Oblast. This release by them is diabolical and thumping in all the ways that make it entirely appropriate for a dark & lazer-filled room somewhere at 4AM. Ghetto Kraviz is a track we've been in love with for a while now. Along with Nina Kraviz. When Jamie Jones dropped this edit of her anthem at Ultra this year though, it was waaaay fatter than we ever could have imagined. On the right sound system (aka a really fucking loud one), the bass here is simply out of control. Go to right before the 4:00 minute mark to get a feel for where Jamie mixed in and how banging the bass was; the track really takes off from there.

Inventive and catchy synth pop bliss off of Tiga's Turbo Records. This song feels like a cooler version of what the 80's should have been like. I recommend listening from the start and letting it just sort of grab you, if you jump ahead all the subtleties that really make the track what it is will end up getting totally lost on ya.

It's friday, so no one should feel guilty about grabbing these next two big room bombs by Archie V and Fareoh. Both are huge and reminiscent of Avicii when he's on top of his game, and I wouldn't be surprised to see both of these dudes blow up in this next year.

Ahhh, good old Boys Noize & Erol Alkan. The two of them are responsible for some of the catchiest and most genre-defining electro cuts from the past decade. Boys Noize Records recently uploaded their third installment of the infamous Miami Noize compilation to soundcloud, and boy does it bang. Really, it's got everything you could expect from an imprint captained by one as equally innovative and maniacal as Alex Ridha, featuring new tunes from the likes of Djedjotronic, SCNTST, Shadow Dancer, and many more. Two standout in particular for me, however, the first being "Don't Do It", a debut release from a "mysterious new producer" called Elax, who we suspect (read: know) is actually an alias of Boys Noize himself (Elax = Alex...clever). It certainly has a Boys Noize sound to it, but with a very uplifting feel together with the pitched vocal and lead synth line. This is one that'll inspire some debauchery filled nights, that I can assure you. The second standout for me is the Strip Steve track, "Strollin'". It's much more laid-back and feel good than the rest of the compilation, which is probably why I like it so much. It's fitting that it concludes the mix; after all that jack- inducing head-banging techno music, everyone needs a little reprieve. Peep the compilation, and the two that I mentioned, below, and be sure to mark your calendars for it's release (digital only) on March 12th.
Like I said above, at some point or another we all need a little break from pounding techno music. Luckily, producers like LA based smoov house expert Urulu exist. This is a little remix he did for the Amadeus imprint. It's as soothing and soulful as anything I've heard in quite a while, perfect for just lounging or perhaps for getting a little intimate. Download below, and be sure to keep your eye on this guy, we predict big big things from him in the near future.
I leave you with this mix I've recently done, featuring, among many others, the Urulu remix from above. It starts off deep and slow only to pickup in the middle and drop down a bit again at the end. This Boys Noize remix from last year managed to get overlooked by a lot of people, but recently it's found its way into heavy rotation on my stereo. Some classical electro a-la 2008 style. I could totally see this one killing a peak time dancefloor if dropped properly.

Treasure Fingers and Malente released a collab EP earlier this week on Defected Records and it is, as expected, absolutely bomb. My favorite track off the EP is the title track, Crusaders, which manages to perfectly harmonize Treasure Finger's smooth funk with Malente's more off-the-wall, four on the floor sensibilities. The B side, Au Revue is definitely worth your time as well. Full release on beatport.

It was a warm, unassuming summer Friday night in Washington, DC when German-born techno vunderkind Alex Ridha, better known as Boys Noize, made a pit stop to blast our nation's capital with pounding beats before heading off to the infamous HARD Summer 2011 Festival in LA. Our only warning of what was to come that evening came directly from the man's twitter: "I think Washington needs some real jackin ghetto sounds tonight". I think I speak for us all when I say that was exactly what we needed to disrupt the slinking, swampy DC summer.
It is no secret that Mr. Ridha, who is equally notorious for his incredible live sets as he is for his keen studio productions, does not give a damn when he's manning the wheels of steel. Sure, he'll play to the mood of the room, as any good DJ should, but at no point will he compromise his artistic integrity by playing a track which does not have the entire room saying to themselves "What is that sick, sick man doing up there?? I've never heard anything like this!" as they compulsively dance like absolute lunatics. And Ridha most certainly lived up to our soaring expectations, sending wave after wave of raw, unadulterated "jackin ghetto sounds" straight to our brains as the dancefloor writhed in elated response. I didn't once leave the dancefloor for so much as a second, happily accepting the fact that this man had every last one of us in the palm of his hand.
A particularly memorable highlight of the night, of which there were many, had to be when he dropped a go-to track of his, DJ Deeon's "Work This M.F.". An old-school "ghetto-house" track with a simple 303 bassline, knocking drums, and a hilarious vocal sample ("HaHaHaHaHa"), the track is a main-stay in his sets for a reason. Boys Noize pumped that thing out with extreme emphasis on the low-end, sending the entire crowd into a frenzy as each kick hit.
From "Ion" to "Jeffer", each song played was mixed in meticulous fashion, layered exquisitely and timed perfectly. As the night seemed to near its end, the room heard the telling sounds of "Yeah" in the speakers, only to find it layered over an a Capella from the Chemical Brothers' "Swoon" which served as the perfect finish to a legendary set the likes of which Washington, DC has never seen before. And from what I hear from Augustus and Patrick, his set at HARD wasn't too shabby either, so be sure to look for our forthcoming review of the entire event!
Sonic pioneer and visionary, Alex Ridha (AKA Boys Noize) has once again impressed the EDM world with his ability to identify young talent in his own backyard. Brand new BNR signee SCNTST is a freak, and the label knows it, stating on the artist's page "SCNTST is not normal. He is sick. He is avantgarde. He still lives at his parent’s house." At the astoundingly young age of 17 years, SCNTST, or Bryan Müller as he is known to his parents, has already cultivated an incredibly unique and mature sound with only 1 (ONE!) year's experience with Ableton; a sound he calls "advanced techno." Don't sleep on this kid, he's a scientist if I've ever seen one.

Well now. I got an iPhone just a few weeks ago and apparently the rumors are true: this shit is tight! One of the first things I did was get Pandora Radio and I was rewarded immediately. This lil’ old Fukkk Offf jam starting pumping out of my speakers and I soon found myself moving uncontrollably (much to the bewilderment of the family in the car next to me). This comes off of his Love Me Hate Me Kiss Me Kill Me album from ’09 which includes “Rave Is King”, a song I can only hope you’ve heard so I’ll post it too, along with the best remix, just in case. Mark Knight’s remix of perhaps the most classic house song of them all, You’ve Got The Love, has been atop the Beatport charts since its June release and for good reason. Apparently all proceeds are going to relief efforts in Japan so make sure to grab it here. Good for you Mark. 8 minutes of progressive breakdowns and builds are completed with bits of the original with a piano part, and a head-bobbing beat reminiscent of his work with Wolfgang Gartner in “Conscindo”. Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love (Mark Knight Remix)
Canadian group Azari & III will be releasing their newest single, Manic, on August 2nd. The limited Turbo 12” comes with the original and a few remixes by Maceo Plex, DJ Sneak, Borderline, and Finger Prince. The Finger Prince dub is my favorite and is a track I can see someone like Seth Troxler dropping. Overall it sounds almost nothing like the original. A simply layered intro evolves into an acid-laden beauty with a groove that seems to come out of nowhere. Just wait for the three minute mark. Feed Me is relatively new to the scene, but has managed to make his mark in the genres of Dubstep and Electro relatively quickly. He leaves those influences out of this remix, however, treating us with a calm yet spectacular surprise. He still amps it up a bit from the original, but boy does this make you want to relax. Somewhere between Egypt and India, Jan Driver found the beat for this song. I feel like I’m lost somewhere in an eastern desert when I listen to it. Anyways, this song may be old, but Jan Driver is as relevant as ever. His 5 track “Amt” EP is set to be released on Boys Noize Records on August 1st and will set the tone for his debut album “Amatilda”, expected to come out in a month or so. Jan Driver - Tellyfoam
Now let’s segue into perhaps my favorite part of all this. Boys Noize and Erol Alkan teamed up not long ago to produce, Avalanche, yet another masterful product courtesy of the pair (see Lemonade, Death Suite). You may have seen some of the countless videos that feature Alex bombing a helpless crowd with the regular version, but I now bring to you the recently released vocal version. We'll start things off with the latest from the half-robot German known as Boys Noize. This newest remix doesn't adhere to his typical pounding german techno style, but rather uses the elements he's known best for as subtle, but awesome, compliments to an overall more acoustic feeling song. The result is really fantastic; I hope this is an indication of what we'll see if Boys Noize decides to start producing for more non-electronic acts. Young gun producer Ekstra gives Adele's Rolling In The Deep a monstrous remix treatment here; the opening lures you in with gorgeous vocals and complimentary piano stabs, only to completely floor you at the drop. Ever since their new album dropped, I've been stuck in a Holy Ghost! phase. I just can't get enough of their retro and groovy style. Their newest release, a collaboration with Black Van (producers Kris Menace and KoweSix), lives up to the sort of garage funk-band style they've established for themselves. The EP comes with a couple versions, including an Aeroplane remix, but it's the Holy Ghost! Edit that really takes the cake. Everything these guys do is pure quality, James Murphy clearly chose right when he took them under the DFA wing a couple years ago. Black Van ft. Holy Ghost! - Moments of Excellence (Holy Ghost! Turbulence by Laidback Luke & Steve Aoki started off as one of the type of songs I could tell that at the outset I wouldn't enjoy (after all it has Lil Jon obnoxiously screaming all over it), but after hearing it blaring out of a proper soundsystem at a Steve Aoki show earlier this spring, I realized that those doubts were misplaced and the track was a proper anthem, Lil Jon and all. The remix package came out recently and of them all one remix stood out to me in particular, and that's the Sidney Samson effort. Mr Samson takes all the energy from the original, adds a touch of dutch flavoring and some acid house, and the result is absolute lunacy. Totally massive. Our friends the Dublin Aunts seem to be really stepping up their game recently. EDX has been one of the titans of progressive house for a while now, but I'm not always the biggest fan of his stuff since sometimes it can be too formulaic or cheesey. I thought TAI's Big Bass Drum EP was solid, but ultimately it left something to be desired. Etienne de Crecy seems to have found the missing elements on this remix, taking the original to new heights with the addition of well put together builds and a ridiculously filthy drop. Afrojack released 2 tracks worth noting recently. First off Selecta is an electro house track with strong dutch house influences, a style that afrojack seems to be favoring more and more recently. Definitely a massive track, as per usual from Mr. Afrojack. Second up is Pop On Acid, which he released for free on his facebook page recently. It's basically Pacha On Acid, the Afrojack classic, redone 2011 style with a little more edge. Nothing completely groundbreaking, but still definitely worth grabbing. And finally to close things out I bring you a track off of Lone's impeccable Echolocations EP. Resident Advisor gave the whole EP a 4.5/5 - they virtually never give anything above a 4. I'd have to agree with them, the 6 track EP is essentially perfect, I'm completely in love with every song on it. The track I'm bringing you today, Dolphin, is an ethereal and sublimely beautiful electronica track with a sort of oriental feel to it.
