In Session

In the abstract, this can be understood as a series of organized sound waves selected to induce a state of maximal hedonism.

download: Destructo - Stand Still (Original Mix)

download: The Juan Maclean - Happy House (Original Mix)

download: Major Lazer - Get Free feat. Amber (What So Not Remix) <-- bonus points for being crazy unique

Boys Noize's tribute to Donna Summers. Whatever that dude is drinking, it's working.
download: Boys Noize - Donnastag

Absolutely gorgeous and amazing track off of Justin Martin's Ghettos & Gardens album, which you ought to buy if you haven't already. Or at least be sure to check out the song 'Butterflies' too.
download: Justin Martin - Don't Go (DJ Version)

This next one, in the right context, is simply a dancefloor destroyer of untold proportions. Now, I know that Jamie Jones is as good of dj as anyone out there (#1 in the world isn't too shabby), but for whatever reason I've never been particularly engaged by any of his productions or remixes. A week or two back in San Francisco though, Maceo Plex dropped this one at around 4AM and the dance floor absolutely WENT OFF. It was probably the highlight of the set for me. After rummaging through tons of remixes the next morning, I couldn't find the right one so I kind of forgot about it until I stumbled across it today. ITS TIME FOR THE PERKYOULATER
download: Cajmere - Percolator (Jamie Jones Vault Remix)

Nic Fanciulli with that thumping TEK AUS on this one, showing why they love him so much at Space Ibiza. We like him too.
download: Radio Slave feat. Danton Eaprom - Grindhouse (Nic Fanciulli Remix)

"Deep House Provokes Thought. The Real. Deep Shit. Let's Get Back To The Raw."
download: Kerri Chandler - Back To The Raw (Ruff Mix)

I first discovered Bubba in a Gesaffelstein mix, and since then he's definitely lived up to that high level of sheer lunacy you'd expect from anything associated with Gesaffelstein, although his style is decidedly on the deeper side of things. And every track with his name on it somehow seems almost overflowing with bass. I'm not complaining. This new remix from him is probably my favorite effort of his so far. Check out more Bubba on Beatport.

GET INVOLVED :: #stopSOPA

Today was a big day in internet history, with hundreds of websites blacking out in protest of the SOPA and PIPA bills making their way through Congress. If these bills are allowed to pass, the internet as we know it will be drastically changed; changed for the worse. In a world where these bills are passed into law, sites like Youtube, Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook and, most importantly, Bright & Shiny would become policed arena's of potential copyright infringement. No longer would these websites be venues for the sharing of ideas, be them base or lofty. So do your part to stop internet censorship. Sign the petition or even write a letter to your Congressman; just don't sit back and let the man take our internet freedoms away.

So in the spirit of internet activism, here are couple of tracks that I would never have come across if it were not for Soundcloud and Youtube.

This track literally would have been impossible to distribute for free in a post-SOPA/PIPA world. Ya girl Azealia Banks spits hot fire over Lone's "Pineapple Crush." I've been waiting for a rapper with good taste to nail the cross-genre game like Azealia has and she's exceeded expectation without breaking a sweat. Congratulations to Ms. Banks for the new record deal: Universal is her new home.
Azealia Banks - Liquorice (prod. Lone)

It's the middle of the winter here in Chicago, but Perseus keeps the tropical vibes pumping. I can't thank you enough, kind sir.
Perseus - Cool Runnings

Disclosure doesn't stop making the most joyous UK Garage around. Make some babies or dance til dawn to this one.
Disclosure - Tenderly

BONUS: New track from Disclosure that I'm anxiously awaiting the release of.

Random edit of a classic Kool & The Gang track, with an updated feel and nu-disco styling. Also could not be distributed (for free) in a post-SOPA/PIPA world... I hope you're starting to get the idea.
Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It (E-SIX Edit)

This edit by Jamie Jones is mean as hell and wholly unreleased. Look for this one in his signature sets or anywhere booties are shaken.
Electric Jones - Nasty's Party (Jamie Jones Edit)

BONUS: Superbomb Jamie Jones remix of Storm Queen coming soon from Defected.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse always surprise me with their beautifully spacious productions, and this one is no different. This track is ideal for those nights that go til 4AM.
M.A.N.D.Y. & Booka Shade - Home (Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Interstellar Mix)

Bright & Shiny Exclusive: Interview with Art Department

From their very inception, the Canadian duo Art Department have known success.  Individually, the two enjoyed a bit of it throughout the 90's and 00's as figures in the Toronto house and techno scenes.  But it was not until Johnny White and Kenny Glasgow came together to form Art Department that the two experienced the type of success one can only dream about.  Just a handful of months after joining forces, the two found themselves in Resident Advisor's prestigious Top 100 DJ's under their new moniker. [UPDATE 12/6: The RA Top 100 DJs of 2011 Poll has been released, ranking Art Department at 6 in the world.] A year later, their tune "Without You" was listed as RA's number one track of 2010: one of the highest honors in the dance music world.  A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with the duo following a soulful set at Chicago's Spybar. We talked about the live show they've currently got in the works, legendary prog-rock band "Yes," and the recent shenanigans of a one Steve Angello. Read this and more, plus some bonus Art Department sounds after the jump.
