Boys Noize Records recently uploaded their third installment of the infamous Miami Noize compilation to soundcloud, and boy does it bang. Really, it's got everything you could expect from an imprint captained by one as equally innovative and maniacal as Alex Ridha, featuring new tunes from the likes of Djedjotronic, SCNTST, Shadow Dancer, and many more. Two standout in particular for me, however, the first being "Don't Do It", a debut release from a "mysterious new producer" called Elax, who we suspect (read: know) is actually an alias of Boys Noize himself (Elax = Alex...clever). It certainly has a Boys Noize sound to it, but with a very uplifting feel together with the pitched vocal and lead synth line. This is one that'll inspire some debauchery filled nights, that I can assure you. The second standout for me is the Strip Steve track, "Strollin'". It's much more laid-back and feel good than the rest of the compilation, which is probably why I like it so much. It's fitting that it concludes the mix; after all that jack- inducing head-banging techno music, everyone needs a little reprieve. Peep the compilation, and the two that I mentioned, below, and be sure to mark your calendars for it's release (digital only) on March 12th.


  BNR0MM14: BNR PRESENTS MIAMI NOIZE 2012 by Boysnoize Records

Like I said above, at some point or another we all need a little break from pounding techno music. Luckily, producers like LA based smoov house expert Urulu exist. This is a little remix he did for the Amadeus imprint. It's as soothing and soulful as anything I've heard in quite a while, perfect for just lounging or perhaps for getting a little intimate. Download below, and be sure to keep your eye on this guy, we predict big big things from him in the near future.

The Most of All Time

It's the middle of finals week at my university and honestly I'm getting absolutely pummeled right now. All I can think about is how much I wish I could just be kicking it somewhere like the picture above, but alas I'm mired in seemingly endless amounts of work. Luckily, LA based producer Urulu has the answer. His newest 'Untitled' EP, which he released for free on monday, is one of the most relaxing, groove-filled things to hit my ears in a long time. Did I mention that it's free? Untitled 01 and Untitled 03 are especially soothing, while Untitled 02 has a bit of a techier edge. They're definitely all worth checking out, and if you like what you hear be sure to send some love over to his Facebook page.

Now for some stuff on the more energetic side of the spectrum, first up I have a recently released Digitalism track that  I haven't been able to get enough of lately. It's Digitalism…remixing Digitalism…and sounding like classic Digitalism. In other words, it's fucking awesome. Recently they'd moved away from their creative approach to electro in favor of a a poppier sound, but this shows them connecting without their glorious 2007-era Idealism roots. Check the whole EP on Beatport for some other dope remixes by Eric Prydz and Jeremy Olander as well.

Next up is a pumping remix of Dirty South and Thomas Gold's 'Alive.' I have to be honest I wasn't as crazy about the original track as some people were when it first came out, but DC local Das Nibley takes it to a new level here with a really smooth reworking that starts fast and keeps the energy up all the way until the end. Nicolas Jaar [Circus Company//Rhode Island]

Nicolas Jaar's new LP "Space Is Only Noise," out on now Circus Company, is something confusing and emotion-laden; propelling yet alien. I'm not gonna lie, I haven't listened to the whole thing. Freaked me out. But, one thing is for sure: this work is art worth exploration, especially coming from a boy who started making music at the age of 14 and is currently a 20-year-old student at Brown. Here are my two favorite tracks off the LP. The first is a discombobulated hip-hop beat verging on lounge and the second, a riff which turns into a pulsing gallop beneath swirling kicks and eerily funky vocal cuts.
