In all seriousness (listen to the song and you'll understand), I'm excited to introduce you to the anthem for every basement in Miami this year. Everything In Between
When Ed Banger's SebastiAn puts out a new track or remix, for me it's always a question of which SebastiAn is going to show up. Good SebastiAn (like Embody), or bad painfully-overdistorted SebastiAn (like on pretty much his entire album). Luckily here we have a perfect example of good SebastiAn. A friend of mine best summed it up to me recently when he said "it's almost like this is what Justice was trying to do on their most recent album...and failed miserably at". Either way, this song rocks.

One of my first memories of falling in love with a piece of music was on a road trip at summer camp when I was maybe 12 or 13, and the older counselers who were driving us played the same Talking Heads CD in the van over and over, and in particular the song "This Must Be The Place" and by a couple hours in everyone was belting all the words to the song at the top of their lungs. That little antidote is only relevant cause that awesome song gets an awesome remix effect here, with Anna Lunoe turning it into a nice little bit of sun splashed house.

And so you don't have to leave empty handed, I've recently been re-obsessed with this summer anthem by self proclaimed "gangsta house"-ers Puente & Rosch. A little history, this track first rose to notoriety during what was apparently somewhat of a shamanic set by Damien Lazarus on the famed DC10 Terrace this summer and thereafter became a staple for the rest of the season on the island. I'm sure you'll be able to tell why after a listen.

Boys Noize @ Ibiza Nightclub, Washington D.C. 8/5/11

It was a warm, unassuming summer Friday night in Washington, DC when German-born techno vunderkind Alex Ridha, better known as Boys Noize, made a pit stop to blast our nation's capital with pounding beats before heading off to the infamous HARD Summer 2011 Festival in LA. Our only warning of what was to come that evening came directly from the man's twitter: "I think Washington needs some real jackin ghetto sounds tonight". I think I speak for us all when I say that was exactly what we needed to disrupt the slinking, swampy DC summer.

It is no secret that Mr. Ridha, who is equally notorious for his incredible live sets as he is for his keen studio productions, does not give a damn when he's manning the wheels of steel. Sure, he'll play to the mood of the room, as any good DJ should, but at no point will he compromise his artistic integrity by playing a track which does not have the entire room saying to themselves "What is that sick, sick man doing up there?? I've never heard anything like this!" as they compulsively dance like absolute lunatics. And Ridha most certainly lived up to our soaring expectations, sending wave after wave of raw, unadulterated "jackin ghetto sounds" straight to our brains as the dancefloor writhed in elated response. I didn't once leave the dancefloor for so much as a second, happily accepting the fact that this man had every last one of us in the palm of his hand.

A particularly memorable highlight of the night, of which there were many, had to be when he dropped a go-to track of his, DJ Deeon's "Work This M.F.". An old-school "ghetto-house" track with a simple 303 bassline, knocking drums, and a hilarious vocal sample ("HaHaHaHaHa"), the track is a main-stay in his sets for a reason. Boys Noize pumped that thing out with extreme emphasis on the low-end, sending the entire crowd into a frenzy as each kick hit.

From "Ion" to "Jeffer", each song played was mixed in meticulous fashion, layered exquisitely and timed perfectly. As the night seemed to near its end, the room heard the telling sounds of "Yeah" in the speakers, only to find it layered over an a Capella from the Chemical Brothers' "Swoon" which served as the perfect finish to a legendary set the likes of which Washington, DC has never seen before. And from what I hear from Augustus and Patrick, his set at HARD wasn't too shabby either, so be sure to look for our forthcoming review of the entire event!

IT'S FRIDAY. Enough with the deep house, Friday deserves some fresh electro stylings to supply you with the beats you need to power your weekend.

First up, there's a new deadmau5 track that's hit the internet this week which was expertly ripped in good quality from his set at Amnesia, Ibiza. This track is a true return to form for Joel, a man who we at Bright & Shiny despise for his hands-off approach to performing live (and recent obsession with dupstep (?)) while absolutely deifying him for his unprecedented and unrivaled sound and attention to detail in his productions. Techier vibes and a pounding 4-on-the-floor beat are employed here amongst familiar, yet fresh analog synth work from the deadmau5. I just hope this signals a return to progressive/tech haus for the mau5, two genres he changed forever.

One more rip for the road, this one from the combined forces of Thomas Gold and Dirty South. A huge banger is coming from these two that gives you both sides of the progressive coin: soaring, hands in the air synths and pounding computer noise at the breakdown. The release date is pending but be sure to look out for the full release: this one's BIG.

No idea who this Arty kid is and its Friday so I'm not about to find out, but check out minute three of this track for an absolutely stunning big-room melody, albeit poorly leveled.

Canblaster has been killing the competition lately and has found himself a new and promising sound: its a sort of melding of fat bass music with an electro sensibility combined with abundant and gorgeous, get this, PIANO STABS. Yeah, that sounds good enough eat, right? Forget that, this new sound can feed a family of four, pay for their schooling, and put a roof over their heads. Watch for Canblaster and his crew, Club Cheval, to be doing big things in the future.

The internet has been a-buzz ever since videos of Harvard Bass dropping this track surfaced, and now its finally here. A low-lying electro banger that positively pulses through your body, this massive tune is only to be played on systems with sub-woofers large enough to blow over a kindergartner.

Speaking of Light Year, these Australian boys known for their techno sensibilities have just remixed an Alex Gopher track (which coincidentally reminds me of this Alex Gopher track) and they've gone full electro. They begin firmly in electro territory with throbbing synths yet slowly the song devolves into a banging acid house rendition. As the song transforms you will similarly begin to devolve into a state of lunacy, but fear not for as long as you are conscious of your transformation there is a chance you will not compulsively burn your house down.

The latest release from Holy Ghost's upcoming album, Wait & See, is pure synth pop gold. I'm a huge sucker for interesting vocal melodies and acoustic piano... so this track has gotten me really excited for the full album to drop. My good friend Alex just recently had the pleasure of seeing Holy Ghost! open for Cut Copy in DC at the 930 Club and he said it was absolutely magical. Love these guys.

Awesome new LBCK remix. I really don't even have to say much about this fantastic track. The name LBCK should just speak for itself at this point. Sample laden and funky. Cue disco ball.

Owner of Cheap Thrills label in London, Herve, teamed up with vocalist MNDR for this grimey house track. Released for free by Green Label Sound.

Now this one is a wee bit odd, but not in a bad way. The top 40's esque pop vocals/lyrics throw me off a little, but I honestly enjoy the dance track that 8barz has created underneath them. This is one of those tracks that I feel like could get a lot of radio play and have mass appeal. Take a listen for yourself.

16 year old (youngster talent) French producer, Madeon, has caught my attention now twice. His latest remix of Yelle's Que Veux Tu has been on my 'walking to class' playlist for a few weeks now and I think it deserves to be posted. Workin' the Machines

We've been having record numbers of daily visitors over the past week here at Bright and Shiny, and I just wanted to thank you guys for choosing B&S. One day, you'll all be able to say "Oh, yeah, I knew about them way before they were famous," and everyone will fear and revere you. Happy Friday boys 'n' girls.

First up today is a great deeper house track by Para One. It really comes into its own right around the 1 minute mark with some great guitar synths and whistling. Trust in me, just in me, you'll like what you hear.

Empire Ants is one of my favorite tracks off of Plastic Beach, and true to their nature, Miami Horror slays this remix. They add some great stabbing chords and a more dancey kick to create a really nice upbeat feel to the whole track.

Clock Opera makes some seriously catchy electro. High flying melodies and harmonies mesh perfectly in this remix to create that 'bright and shiny' feel that you guys crave. Get it while it's hot.

What I really love about RAC remixes is the subtlety they use in their instrumentation. I love their synth choices, and how they so readily maintain the integrity of the original while still enhancing it and making it their own.

Channel Cairo - Twenty (RAC Maury Remix)

Flight Facilities seems to produce music for my ears specifically. Vocals courtesy of electropop sensation Cut Copy off of their new album Zonoscope. The brushed bell synths and the seagulls create a summery beach feel that will have you yearning for those long carefree days. This song has been stuck in my head all day...

Maya Jane Coles is a name I haven't come across before, but after giving this track a listen, I expect to see it a lot more. She hails from London and brings some real old-school house elements to her tracks. This one's been sitting pretty high in the beatport charts, and once you take in its deep 90's style beat you'll know why.

I've got huge track from the Dutch big room master himself, Laidback Luke to give you all. When this man does it right, as he so often does, you're in for a treat. Here he gives Robyn's "Indestructible" the heavy treatment, transforming the relatively tame original into a certified banger.

I was pretty disappointed with Surkin's Silver Island EP; it just didn't have the quality I was expecting from the young Frenchman. I came across this excellent remix of "Fan Out" from Light Year recently. It maintains a very Surkin vibe, especially with the vocal chops, but lays it over a nice bass-y synth line and some quick hitting percussion. Quality.

C'mon Give Me A Break

Starsmith first caught my attention for his production on Ellie Goulding's fantastic single "Starry Eyed." As an up and coming pop producer, I never have expected much from his original mixes, but this track is a surprisingly delightful nu-disco house jam. Look out for his debut solo single to be released on Neon Gold, coming this October 18th.

I know it might seem like the world is coming to an end, what with Bright & Shiny posting TWO dubstep songs in a week, but at least let me try to explain. I heard this song at a frathouse the other night, and was drawn to the dank hip-hop beat at the beginning. When the wompwomp comes in the songs goes downhill fast, but I find myself able to tolerate this sort of dubstep, or Dup-Hop as we here at Bright & Shiny have coined it, because of the compelling hip-hop beat fixed firmly beneath the womps, as opposed to the usual reggae-inspired dub beats or driven d&b beats which dominate the dubstep landscape. Props to Bassnectar.

We've been supporting Porter Robinson, 19 year old from Chapel Hill, NC, for quite a while now. I have not been too impressed by his new single "I'm On Fire," no disrespect to PK, but there's no doubting the kid is talented and I do have a couple of incredible remixes to share with you all. Right from the very beginning of every track you can distinctly hear the presence of Robinson's self-appointed primary influence, Wolfgang Gartner. And this is most certainly a good thing. Robinson takes the programming insanity that Gartner brings to the table and proceeds to smash it into as many things as he can. Robinson's frenetic productions have clear elements of electro, house, dubstep, progressive house and trance, yet as a whole his productions sound cohesive and resist genre categorization. Well played, my friend. First up is Robinson's hotly anticipated collaboration with Lazy Rich, "Hello," featuring Sue Cho on vocals. Second is his remix of Tim Berg's "Seek Bromance," a song whose many iterations never really really clicked with me. This outstanding remix gives the prog house anthem a thick electro sheen.

the Clubhaus

Australian duo Light Year have come up with a winning combination. "Sex Education" blends a heaping serving of funk with wonderfully strange computer noises reminiscent of Soulwax/2 Many DJs. Maybe that's why they've been getting so much support from the brothers Dawaele and good friend Tiga. Yeah, you need to hear this fucking song. No release information yet, but these two are working on a new EP entitled "Five Girls" so keep your eyes out for some more of this techno funk.
Light Year - Sex Education


Big, fat yet deep, prog house bomb from the afrolatin Dutch master, Gregor Salto. I love Salto's consistently fantastic employment of knocking afrolatin drum patterns, but he even used a like pattern for his lead synth this time around. The Dutch are ahead of the game, like usual. Watch out for the final drop where Salto throws the lead synths from the original into the mix, forging an undeniable clubhaus anthem.
