Morning Lines

The homie Sir Real will be back later today for your full serving of beats, but in the meantime here's a bit for you all to snack on to tide you over until then.

Set rave lazers to full blast for this one. I sense this is a track we'll be hearing a lot of this spring.

Any time we get something in the mail from our friends over at La Bombe, I'm instantly excited. Recently they sent over this funky and freaky remix by label head Sharooz and I have to say it's some real fuego. An extended mix longer than just the 3:58 might have been nice, but they're giving this bad boy away for free so no complaints over here.

And, new Bingo Players. These guys always seem to find a way to shake it up

What You Need

If there's one thing I know for certain in this world, it's that no matter who you are you can always benefit from more Treasure Fingers and/or Boys Noize in your diet..

This Boys Noize remix from last year managed to get overlooked by a lot of people, but recently it's found its way into heavy rotation on my stereo. Some classical electro a-la 2008 style. I could totally see this one killing a peak time dancefloor if dropped properly.
download: Sebastien Tellier - L'amour Et La Violence (Boys Noize Euro Mix)

Treasure Fingers and Malente released a collab EP earlier this week on Defected Records and it is, as expected, absolutely bomb. My favorite track off the EP is the title track, Crusaders, which manages to perfectly harmonize Treasure Finger's smooth funk with Malente's more off-the-wall, four on the floor sensibilities. The B side, Au Revue is definitely worth your time as well. Full release on beatport.
download: Treasure Fingers & Malente - Crusaders (Original Mix)

Bonus time: Botnek turn the batshit craziness up to 11 here, as per usual from the Canadian duo.
download: Tocadisco - Bat3ria (Botnek Remix)

Be sure to check the full EP on beatport for some other equally massive remixes, especially the deliriously groovy Stefano Noferini effort which you can stream below.

Out of The fog

The Well last night was, as it always seems to be, predictably bumping. If there was one common theme throughout the night it was the eclectic selection of sounds represented, with each of the (mostly LA local) DJs on the lineup bringing their own subtle style to the table for an offering that was in retrospect refreshingly diverse; the music literally hit all the bases from the deep end to thumping acid house and everything in between.

Two tracks that stood out in particular were Wax Motif & Neoteric's 2011 summer jam "Go Deep" and the TWR72 anthem "Summer Of '91 (Acid version)".. we've already given both of those tracks plenty of love on here though so instead I'll offer a little variation based off the two of them. First a delicious (even deeper) redub of "go deep" courtesy of Maxxi Soundsystem and second one of my favorite more obscure TWR72 efforts..

download: Neoteric & Wax Motif - Go Deep (Maxxi Soundsystem 12" Deep Mix)

[Go Deep full release on Beatport]

download: Alex Metric & Charli XCX - End Of The World (TWR72 Dub)

[TWR72 on Beatport]

And finally sticking with the LA theme, this forthcoming release on Culprit Records is, for lack of any more accurate way to put it, straight up jackin'.

Make That Megapost Clap

It's been a slow week here on radio Bright & Shiny, but no worries, we're back here in full effect with good tunes, sunny vibes and a megapost of epic proportions. I say sunny vibes cause it's a beautiful day here in southern california and all I can find myself listening to is appropriately chilled down music. It is thursday, though, so mixed in with the chill is some measured insanity to aid you this weekend. Don't say we didn't tell you so.

Norwegian Todd Terje is in a class of his own. Support the man and grab this masterpiece off beatport. (Also make sure you've checked out Ragysh/Snooze 4 Love from last year if you managed to sleep that hard)
download: Todd Terje - Inspector Norse (Original Mix)

Fresh off the recent dirtybird Hatched pt 2 compilation, this one is sure to.. well.. make that booty clap. Seriously though, drop this on any dance floor, and pandemonium is guaranteed to ensue. The hip hop breakdown at 2:35 is killer as well.
download: Kill Frenzy - Booty Clap

The name says it all on this one
download: Notorious B.I.G. - Going Back to Cali (Viceroy "Jet Life" Remix)

Sunshine grooves straight from the legendary island itself
download: Larse - The More I Want (Eivissa Edit)

Deep, tropical house  courtesy of the lovely Nina Kraviz and the video below.
download: SCSI-9 - Summariata (Pablo Bolivar Remix)

Classic Zeds Dead that still hits the spot every time.
download: Zeds Dead - Coffee Break (Original Mix)

Honestly this track is too good. Noir has been killing it lately, both with his label and his own tracks. Simply put, this is tech house in its most mischievous, late-night form. Just a warning, this one is prone to finding its way to packed dance floors at 5am. Grab the full release on beatport.
download: Noir & Richard Davis - Found Out (Original Mix)  *Highly Recommended

Slowed down, Hip Hop vibes from German beatsmiths Modeselektor.
download: Modeselektor - Berlin feat. Miss Platinum

Wait, it's already thursday?
download: Jerry Rekonius - Powahbunga (Original Mix)

More big room sounds. Anyone remember this blast from the past from Chris Lake and Michael Woods?
download: Chris Lake and Michael Woods - Dominos (Orignal Mix)

This song was co-written by Boys Noize. I'll let you decide.

Speaking of Boys Noize, he and Mr. Oizo have officially teamed up to create the electro tech supergroup Handbraekes and will be releasing a 4 song EP. My personal favorite off the EP is the absolutely ludicrous bomb "Callgurls". The full release is still a while away, but you can grab a preview quality below to tide you over until then.

Prince Club

Prince Club, comprised of two young house music producers from Montreal, has been consistently churning out high quality minimal deep house music for about a year now.  In this short amount of time, they have really set themselves apart with their recognizable unique style that is reminiscent of minimal techno, but with their own bass heavy touch and collection of crazy bleeps and bloops.  They have two EP's out and have played numerous heavyweight venues and festivals including Ministry of Sound in London and Nuits Sonores in Paris.  Their latest remix is something that sounds like it was spawned out of the sweaty basement of a German warehouse.  Complete with a crawling baseline and horror movie-esque vocal, this track makes you feel a little out of sorts in a great way.

For more things Prince Club:

If you like their style, then take a listen to the mix they did for Pulse Radio this past December.

As Heard On Radio Weekend

It's saturday and I can't resist posting some straight up weekend music. These two Bart B More remixes arent necessarily brand new, but I've been playing them a lot recently especially last night. if you've been following Bright & Shiny that long we actually gave you guys the call 911 remix a whiles back but chances are you haven't so cop it below, it's massive.

download: Baskerville - Devil's Town (Bart B More's Stuiter Mix)

download: Florrie - Call 911 (Bart B More Remix)

A freaking killer remix of the Boys Noize/Erol Alkan classic Lemonade by Light Year and The Finger Prince. I have to say, my personal favorite remix is still the Ekstra effort though.
download: Erol Alkan & Boys Noize - Lemonade (Light Year & The Finger Prince Remix)

I told you I'd be coming with the weekend sounds... This Nicky Romero remix is exactly that.
download: Tonite Only - Haters Gonna Hate (Nicky Romero 'Out Of Space' Remix)

If you find yourself grooving tonight, be sure to put this funky jam by Wax Motif on the sound system.

GET INVOLVED :: #stopSOPA

Today was a big day in internet history, with hundreds of websites blacking out in protest of the SOPA and PIPA bills making their way through Congress. If these bills are allowed to pass, the internet as we know it will be drastically changed; changed for the worse. In a world where these bills are passed into law, sites like Youtube, Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook and, most importantly, Bright & Shiny would become policed arena's of potential copyright infringement. No longer would these websites be venues for the sharing of ideas, be them base or lofty. So do your part to stop internet censorship. Sign the petition or even write a letter to your Congressman; just don't sit back and let the man take our internet freedoms away.

So in the spirit of internet activism, here are couple of tracks that I would never have come across if it were not for Soundcloud and Youtube.

This track literally would have been impossible to distribute for free in a post-SOPA/PIPA world. Ya girl Azealia Banks spits hot fire over Lone's "Pineapple Crush." I've been waiting for a rapper with good taste to nail the cross-genre game like Azealia has and she's exceeded expectation without breaking a sweat. Congratulations to Ms. Banks for the new record deal: Universal is her new home.
Azealia Banks - Liquorice (prod. Lone)

It's the middle of the winter here in Chicago, but Perseus keeps the tropical vibes pumping. I can't thank you enough, kind sir.
Perseus - Cool Runnings

Disclosure doesn't stop making the most joyous UK Garage around. Make some babies or dance til dawn to this one.
Disclosure - Tenderly

BONUS: New track from Disclosure that I'm anxiously awaiting the release of.

Random edit of a classic Kool & The Gang track, with an updated feel and nu-disco styling. Also could not be distributed (for free) in a post-SOPA/PIPA world... I hope you're starting to get the idea.
Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It (E-SIX Edit)

This edit by Jamie Jones is mean as hell and wholly unreleased. Look for this one in his signature sets or anywhere booties are shaken.
Electric Jones - Nasty's Party (Jamie Jones Edit)

BONUS: Superbomb Jamie Jones remix of Storm Queen coming soon from Defected.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse always surprise me with their beautifully spacious productions, and this one is no different. This track is ideal for those nights that go til 4AM.
M.A.N.D.Y. & Booka Shade - Home (Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Interstellar Mix)

SIR REAL

Square One

During a late night DJ session recently, my friend Matt introduced me to the wonders of Paul Kalkbrenner for the first time, and needless to say I was completely blown away. Luckily for me he left the USB disc we were DJing with at my house, so I've proceeded to appropriate his entire Kalkbrenner collection as my own, and have basically been listening to the dude on repeat all day. Here's one of the especially dope tracks…
download: Paul Kalkbrenner - Square 1 (Origi Mix)

Wu-Tang samples, some dreamy synth work, and impeccable percussion. Pretty much all I've ever wanted in a song. I really love the hazy, psychedelic atmosphere here.
download: Fire For Effect - Weed Tang Clan

The Australian homeboys '96 bulls have been making fresh, disco-tinged electro and doing self proclaimed "record setting ninja shit" for a while now. Every time one of their songs shows up in our mailbox I know it's gonna be quality. Keep up with all things bulls on Twitter and on their Soundcloud.
download: St. Lucia - All Eyes On You ('96 Bulls Remix)

also this new Disclosure is, uh, FIYA. Out January 30th.

Sweet Sensation

Few things in the world get us more excited than a new Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs release. With that said, one of the few things capable of getting us more excited is a new FREE teed release. This track off of his new album came out for free for one day only on itunes UK, but for those of us not fortunate enough to live in the kingdom of great britain (such as myself) it's not so easy to download... Luckily, we've got you covered. Grab it below.
download: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - You Need Me On My Own

We've been singing Lone's praises practically since the dawn of time, and that's not really about to stop. However, every release I find by him seems to confirm that he's even more versatile than I previously thought, as this next remix shows. It's all typical Lone for the first minute, until it veers off into delirium-inducing dance mania with a huge bassline and fat percussion. Check the release on Cheap Thrills.
download: Shades Of Rhythm - Sweet Sensation (Lone Remix)

The Germans know their techno, and that is a fact. This thumping techno thoroughbred was released on Boys Noize Records' sub-label BNR Trax last year and I've kept it in my dj bag as sort of a secret weapon ever since. German newcomer Audionite is responsible for this one. Show some love on Beatport and follow him on Facebook.
download: Audionite - Absurde (Original Mix)

I'll probably catch some flack for posting this next one, but honestly it's too big for me to resist. I know Angger Dimas is only credited with a "Featuring" on this track, but his influence is waaay more visible here than Aoki's (I think it's obviously just labeled that way because this track is on Aoki's next album). Anyway, for those of you drawn to the more big room sounds, this is one you won't want to miss.

Get It Twisted

Fresh outta Bristol, aka the new Compton, Lukas is doing big things. His tracks have a bass-ey feel similar to his cohabitators like Julio Bashmore and Eats Everything, but his music has a distinctly more chicago house, old school vibe to them. Check it, love it, live it, support da dude on beatport.
download: Crazy P - Changes (Lukas Remix) *192 Kbps

My homeboy patrick posted that Azealea Banks video the other day, and I have to say after he introduced me to her guiles over new years, I've been straight up hooked. This next song is so catchy I'm pretty sure it's some form of a narcotic. I don't think theres a better "let's get fucked up" song that I've come across in the past year...
download: Azealia Banks - 212 ft Lazy Jay

I can't decide which is better, the song or the music video

The synth work here is so next level it's absurd. Solomun is quickly emerging as an artist we can't take our eyes off of; every track this dude releases is incredible. With that said, I'm not sure how I feel about the vocals on this one. It is a remix, so they probably requested he leave in all of the vocal track, but still it feels a little out of place here. Still a completely ridiculous track though.
download: Ron Carroll & Superfunk - Lucky Star (Solomun Remix)

The man PK referred me to this classic slice of electro the other day and I've been bumping it pretty regularly ever since. Erol Alkan or die.
download: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero (Erol Alkan Rework)

I'm feeling nostalgic, so here's some more classical action for you.. Consider these your history lesson for the week. (Yes, that's DFA as in James Murphy and DFA Records)
download: Justice - Phantom II (Soulwax Remix)

download: Hot Chip - (Just Like We) Breakdown (DFA Remix) <-----fresh to the maximum

Also… happy saturday

And finally we'll be at the Brodinski/Gesaffelstein show in LA tonight in full effect, so be on the look out for us with stickers and whatnot.

Huzzah

This remix track by Maxxi Soundsystem, aka Sam Watts, has been on repeat on my iPod for a couple weeks now.  It is amazingly well done in all regards.  This lesser known Brighton, UK based artist has released tracks for several stellar labels including Hot Waves, Nervous Records, Needwant, Moda Records, Southern Fried, and with this track in particular, Permanent Vacation.  When he isn't busy in the studio, Sam is throwing legendary Bristol parties known as Schtumm!, where he's brought in amazing talent from Maya Jane Coles to Tensnake.  This remix adds a much needed deep disco feel to the original.  With a funky bass line that pulsates throughout the track, Maxxi Soundsystem keeps you on your feet from start to finish.  If you needed any convincing as to whether or not you should buy this tune, just wait for the 3:47 minute mark to make your decision.  Turn up your bass and take yourself for a ride.

If you liked that track, which I'm pretty sure you did, then you're gonna like this mix which you can pick up for free from his SoundCloud page.  More nu disco/deep disco/house vibes.

Come One

Augustus threw up the deliciously deep Luca Lozano track "Thug It Out" the other day, but my god, the KWS (aka straight-outta-detroit-wonderkid Kris Wadsworth) version is on another level. Wadsworth slows things down to a pulsing 117 BPM and builds from the ground up all the way to the song's conclusion. With a menacing lead synth that can't make me think of anything else but a didgeridoo, everything comes together magnificently around the 4:20 mark, cementing the image of a basement, late-night, illicit rave party in the listener's brain (or at least mine). Stream a snippet below, and check the full EP on beatport.
Luca Lozano - Thug It Out (KWS We Be Thuggin Remix) by Klasse Recordings

Still on that deeper tip, this one actually came out in November, but I get the feeling that it slipped under enough radars (including mine) to merit posting. Coming off the Need U Back EP, a collaboration between Andre Crom and Martin Dawson, it's the Homework remix that I favor. The dark, brooding bass-line of the original is good enough, but the added arrpegiated highs and airy atmospherics really set it off. Just another Homework production that I can't stop listening to.
Andre Crom & Martin Dawson - Need U Back (Homework Remix)

On the much funkier side, disco house duo J Paul Getto have been all up in my iTunes playlists lately with "Imma Let You Know", which samples the classic Black Moon track "Who Got Da Props?", which I think I even posted not too long ago. This one screams "Chicago", and I have no doubt you'll be be jackin' along to that crisp percussion. The breakdown around 3:50 is too good.
J Paul Getto - Imma Let You Know

And finally, I leave you with a number off of the much acclaimed Machinedrum album Room(s). If you haven't given it a listen yet, you're seriously slacking. It's magnificent. Peep this Resident Advisor review if you don't believe me (they don't hand out 5/5's too idly). "Come1" is the perfect uplifting, uptempo, piano house jam to start your night activities.

A Case Of The Mondays

Every so often when it's a monday, I can find myself a little thrown off by the fact that the weekend is over and there's an entire week ahead before the glorious times that come between thursday and sunday, but then, after some thinking, I realize there's a solution... pounding, pounding techno music. And so, I make sure to go out and find the most banging, face crushing tracks I can find, and proceed to play them as loud as possible at myself. Only then is it possible to forget, at least for a little bit, that today's a monday. So, naturally, that's what I did this morning, and here are some of my best finds...

Mumbai Science are on some of that other shit. These belgian youngsters simply have a sound carved out for themselves that's unlike anything out there. Its somewhere in between techno and electro that escapes exact definition, but whatever it is there's no doubt that it's freaking LARGE. Their newest EP came out today, and it's already received support from Boys Noize, Tiga, and Crookers just to name a few. That should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about it. Here's one of the two songs on it, but be sure to grab the full thing off of beatport.
download: Mumbai Science - Researchers (Original Mix)

Dark and deep analog vibes pulse along all the way through this one, making me feel a bit like I'm lost in the basement of a berlin discotech every time I listen to it. Our friends over at Volta Bureau came out with this remix a couple months back and it managed to slip under our radar a bit, but I don't know how because it's absolutely incredible. Honestly, comparing this with their hit "Alley Cat", it's amazing how versatile these guys are. Definitely a group to watch in 2012 if you aren't already. This song is honestly too good, I'd feel guilty giving it away for free - make sure to buy it off of Beatport.
[Stream Only]: Pat Lok - No Shame (Volta Bureau Remix)

I recently came across a band called Computer Magic, and I've completely fallen in love with their sound. It's a dreamy, retro-styled approach to electronica that makes me think of summer days and summer haze. Play this one on the next sunny day. Be sure to follow her soundcloud for some more jams.
download: Computer Magic - Grand Junction

Lastly but definitely not least, more Grum is always good for you. I feel like listening to this song is pretty much exactly what doing cocaine in the 80s must have been like........
download: Keenhouse - Ari-es (Grum Remix)

Augustus

Persian Algebra

I'm not usually big into the moombahton, but this latest single from fellow UCSB gaucho Sticky K is pretty bomb. Released for free by Mad Decent the other day, this is one you really don't wanna miss out on. The synth work is so clean and creative, I really love that sort of glitchy, lasers-shooting-out-of-a-pyramid sound that its got going on here.
download: Sticky K - Persian Algebra

Secondly, this remix of Brodinski's "Let The Beat Control Your Body" is absolutely filthy. Like, off the chain retarded. Love me some techno.

Bill Cosby Style

Let's be honest, who doesn't like big room house on the weekends? I'm pretty sure it's agreeable to all of the situations you're most likely to find yourself in on a friday or saturday night. And it's on that note that you should take (love) these next two songs.. you're welcome

Where's The Love

I first heard this one during a sublime set by Danny Daze at Spybar in Chicago, and from what I can tell it's been one of his staples over the past couple months because he played it again when I saw him in DC a few weeks later. All I can say is this is a song that really sounds incredible when it's thumping out of the right sound system at full blast. Show some love and grab the full release on Beatport (on Sven Vath's Cocoon Recordings).
download: Guy Gerber & Shlomi Aber - After Love (Original Mix)

I don't know if you guys have listened to Brodinski's Fabriclive 60 Mix yet, but if you haven't I highly suggest checking it out. It's basically an hour and twenty minutes of dark and relentlessly good techno that shows off the frenchman and his superb mixing skills at their absolute best. One of the highlights of the mix is this next tune, a remix by Gucci Vump, which is really a collaboration between Guillaume of The Shoes and Brodinski himself. Anyway, this track is simply a monster when it's dropped at the right time. For some reason it's not on beatport, but you can grab it off of Itunes.
download: Woodkid - Iron (Remix by Gucci Vump)

I'm not sure why I wasn't crazy about this one when it first came out, but I'm really feeling it lately. Another track where the louder you play it the better. Be sure to check out Surkin's whole USA album for the full release.
download: Surkin - Ultra Light (Original Mix)

I love songs that have you convinced for the first part that you know where they're going, only to completely pull a 180 and confuse the fuck out of you at the drop by going a totally different and way crazier direction. This next song is exactly like that. It alternates between deep, chicago-ey vibes and off the wall bristol-ey bass lunacy, making it the perfect type of song to drop during peak time of a set. For lack of a better word, this one is straight up mental. Beatport it to buy the full release.
download: Luca Lozano - Thug It Out (Original Mix)

I managed to sleep on this release by (for those not in the know, formerly 1/2 of Aeroplane) The Magician, but this one is ridiculously catchy and reminiscent of some of the best Aeroplane numbers. Jeppe contributes on vocals, showing that "I'll Get You" is hardly the only uber-catchy vocal performance that dude is capable of. Apparently he wrote all the lyrics in a shack in the desert, which is pretty cool too. And somewhat confusing because this is like, the ultimate beach song...
download: The Magician - I Don't Know What To Do feat. Jeppe (Original)

And finally.... this video is always worth a revisiting. Happy Friday.

Along For The Ride

In the relentless pursuit of good music that comes with being a music blogger, I've found that every once in a while, when I'm lucky, a song comes along that transcends the normal bounds of what music is supposed to do - somehow it becomes not simply a good track, but a sort of anthem that takes on a meaning entirely beyond what a 4 or 5 minute piece of noise ought to signify. That's exactly the case with Jonas Rathsman's Tobago. Unknowingly, I first heard this song during the Magician's incredible set at HARD Haunted Mansion this year and found myself dancing into an oblivion of bliss to it, but somehow it wasn't until the other day when a friend sent over the actual song that I found myself able to ascribe a name and title to this incredible tune. In the time since, I've literally been listening to it on repeat, throwing it on during parties and when I'm jamming by myself alike - it's literally that good. So, with that, I give you Tobago. May it end up being as meaningful to you as it is to me.
download: Jonas Rathsman - Tobago (Original Mix)

And yes. There's a music video that's as good as the actual song to go along with it.

Say hello to Tony Junior. Based on this next song "Anigav" I'm predicting that this is a name you're going to be seeing A LOT more of around here. Simply put, this is amazingly catchy progressive house at its best, so good in fact that upon listening to it you might think it came from the hands of Avicii himself. Make sure to support the guy by showing some love to his facebook page and grabbing the release (which came out two days ago) off of beatport. PS say "Anigav" backwards to yourself.
download: Tony Junior - Anigav (Original Mix)

BANGER ALERT. Bart B More and TAI are responsible for this next one, and honestly, that should be all you need to hear to know this track is absolutely massive. So I'll stop with the explanation, beyond mentioning that it's absolutely hilarious that these guys managed to sample THIS piece of youtube lore and work it into a ridiculously huge drop. Out now on Bart B More's own label, Secure Recordings. BEATPORT RELEASE, yo. TWR72 remix is rather large as well.
