Goodies

Amazing vibes, per usual, courtesy of Poolside. This is the first track off their debut album, slated for July 9th. Free download doesn’t hurt.

Walker & Royce came through with a couple debut singles and a Francesca Lombardo remix for one of them just a few days ago. These two Brooklyn boys have been working magic as of late so definitely keep an eye on them. Go to their soundcloud and get a taste if you know what’s good for you.

I accidentally bought this song before I listened to a preview and had a fleeting moment of regret. Then I was like ‘oh wait, I’m an idiot, this is a DJ T remix. His shit is golden 110% of the time all the time’. Now go make the same mistake I made and check out the other magnificent releases on Get Physical’s “Full Body Workout Volume 9” release.

Black Light Smoke – Lovework (DJ T Remix) [Stream Only]

Here are three more gems you are now required to get. Jump out of your seat and run to the beatport store nearest you, buy them, acquire endless aural satisfaction, and support our boys Solomun, Sharooz, and DeMarzo. Then go back home and wait for further intructions.

Solomun - Kackvogel [Stream Only]

A shot of liquor and a cigarette can work wonders, just stay away from bears.

Chicago remix with a little less "Chicago" than the original.
Hoshina Anniversary - Chicago (Sharooz Remix) Removed by request

Look up the rest of the Goodie-Goodies EP for more.. goodies

Miami Survival Pack // Megapost

We've been slacking pretty hard lately, but I hope you ate your wheaties this morning because in preparation for Miami Music Week/Ultra we've got a megapost coming at you today that's literally so dumb it's clinically retarded. It is Miami after all right? I think that means we're kind of obligated to start with the biggest, most off the wall stuff.

TECHNOOOOOOOO. This newest release on Brodinski's Bromance imprint is insanely fat. Expect to hear this one devastating dancefloors inside the tents during some of the techier sets at Ultra this year. Needless to say, Pipes is a dude who you should pay attention to from now on.
download: Pipes - Sleeping (Original Mix)

download: Sander Van Doorn - Chasin' (Original Mix)

download: Attaque - Shadows (Original Mix)

download: Matisse, Arty, Sadko - Trio (Original Mix)

download: Burns & NT89 - Traffic (Original Mix)

download: John Dahlback - Life (Original Mix)

download: Casey Spooner - Cinnamon Toast (Modek Remix)

It should go without saying, but make sure you crank the bass up to 11 on this one. Cue face melting circa the 2 minute mark. Release from the homies over at GND Records.
download: Hoshina Anniversary - Chicago (Original Mix)

download: Sharooz - Hysteresis (Hijack Remix)

Underground Sound
If you guys didn't eat your wheaties this morning, maybe you had some Cocaine and Ketamine instead? I hear either one counts as nourishment in Miami... In all seriousness (listen to the song and you'll understand), I'm excited to introduce you to the anthem for every basement in Miami this year. The long awaited "You and I" (better known as "Cocaine and Ketamine") by Fur Coat is out now on crosstown rebels.
download: Fur Coat - You and I

Light Year's newest release shows them going in a much more underground, deep house direction, and frankly it was a beautiful decision. I could eat this bassline for days. Sexy, 5AM vibes.
download: Light Year - Moderation (Original Mix)

This song is THE jam. Turn your speakers to full blast and listen to the little break after 1:30 to understand what I'm talking about. The only possible way this song could be cooler was if she was actually saying "Shots are on the house"... free shots are nice
download: Tensnake - Around The House (DJ T.'s 2011 Edit)

French Fries with some bass filled heat from dirtybird. Sidebar, I'm still waiting for patrick to learn how to do the Vogue like he says he's gonna. Will he pull it off in Miami? Tune in this time next week to find out.
download: French Fries - Yo Vogue (Original Mix)

download: DJ Glen - Bone System (Click Click's Neon White Mix)

I was waiting a long time for this remix EP to come out on the LA deep house label Culprit, and, well, it's finally out... AND IT'S AWESOME. Konrad Black puts in a supreme deep house cut here alongside a slew of other megafresh remixes. Make sure you check the whole thing out on Beatport.
download: Subb-an - What I Do (Konrad Black's "What I Did To You" Mix)

After the After-Afterparty
Some tracks for those late nights/surreal mornings when youre just trying to recuperate and relax. What better thing for that than some spacious amazing progressive house? This throwback by Inpetto always hits the spot.
download: Fragma - Toca Me (Inpetto 2008 Remix)

download: Benny Benassi feat. Channing - Come Fly Away (Adam K & Soha Remix)

Super chill remix by the legendary discomaster Greg Wilson that I randomly came across on a compilation by a label called Bear Funk Records. I definitely recommend checking out their "Hibernation" compilation series (which this track came off of), its some disco fuego.
download: Social Disco Club & Maia - The Way You Move (Greg Wilson Version)

Everything In Between
When Ed Banger's SebastiAn puts out a new track or remix, for me it's always a question of which SebastiAn is going to show up. Good SebastiAn (like Embody), or bad painfully-overdistorted SebastiAn (like on pretty much his entire album). Luckily here we have a perfect example of good SebastiAn. A friend of mine best summed it up to me recently when he said "it's almost like this is what Justice was trying to do on their most recent album...and failed miserably at". Either way, this song rocks.
download: The Shoes - Time To Dance (SebastiAn Remix) *Highly Recommended

download: Helvetic Nerds - Mistaken Identity (Incognet Remix)

One of my first memories of falling in love with a piece of music was on a road trip at summer camp when I was maybe 12 or 13, and the older counselers who were driving us played the same Talking Heads CD in the van over and over, and in particular the song "This Must Be The Place" and by a couple hours in everyone was belting all the words to the song at the top of their lungs. That little antidote is only relevant cause that awesome song gets an awesome remix effect here, with Anna Lunoe turning it into a nice little bit of sun splashed house.
download: Cari Kennedy & Goodwill (Talking Heads cover) - Home (Anna Lunoe Remix)

And last but not least, some Soulwax is always the basis of a healthy diet. (this is kind of just a testament to me being crazy excited to see 2manydjs again at Ultra this year...you should be too)
download: Walter Murphy - A Fifth Of Beethoven (Soulwax Edit)

Morning Lines

The homie Sir Real will be back later today for your full serving of beats, but in the meantime here's a bit for you all to snack on to tide you over until then.

Set rave lazers to full blast for this one. I sense this is a track we'll be hearing a lot of this spring.

Any time we get something in the mail from our friends over at La Bombe, I'm instantly excited. Recently they sent over this funky and freaky remix by label head Sharooz and I have to say it's some real fuego. An extended mix longer than just the 3:58 might have been nice, but they're giving this bad boy away for free so no complaints over here.

And, new Bingo Players. These guys always seem to find a way to shake it up

To the Rhythm

Somehow I just discovered Croatian DJ/Producer Mladen Solomun in the last couple of months. To put it simply, this guy knows what is good. I don’t think I’ve listened to a track of his that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. I meant to post some more of his music along with the Noir & Haze remix I posted a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t fit them in. So here are couple more, of what I’m sure will be many, Solomun jams. The first one, a remix of So Phat!, is well, just that: phat. The second is a tech house monster I first heard in a Sven Väth video so you know it’s legit.

Download: So Phat! – A Love Bizarre (Solomun Remix)

Download: Solomun - Sisi

I’m back with another Wildkats song. This time the Brits edit Daft Punk’s “Face to Face” off the classic Discovery album. They’re giving it away too, so snag it here.
Whats Goin On - (Daft Punk Edit) - Free Download by WILDKATS

The Swiss house crusaders, Round Table Knights, never fail to get the people clappin’ on the dance floor. This Monkey Safari remix is surely a testament to that (hint: more cowbell is the secret ingredient). Grab it on beatport tomorrow when it gets released.
Monkey Safari - Kiss The Birds (Round Table Knights Remix) by Round Table Knights

It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from Sharooz, but just yesterday I stumbled upon this new track called Persistence of Time. His typical mayhem infused electro has returned and leaves you wondering why you were just repeatedly smashing your head against the wall. I’m not sure when this track will drop, but I’ll make sure to keep a look out. In the meantime check out our interview with him for an overview of all that is Sharooz.

Earlier this month Treasure Fingers did the mix of the week for Mixmag. It’s a private mix on soundcloud so I can’t share it directly, but do yourself a favor and GET TO IT HERE. Tracklisting is available in the description and you can download it FO’ FREE! If you have any previous experience with the sound of Ashley Jones then you already know what it iz yo. Dive in.

The last song off the Treasure Fingers mix is a Dublin Aunts remix of the Australian band Jubilants. Some great bass lines and guitar riffs in there.

Exclusive B&S Sharooz Interview

As a young teen, Sharooz began his musical ventures as a punk guitarist before ultimately shifting his sights towards dance music in 1998. Beginning his stellar career with debut single, Hell Yeah (2006), Sharooz quickly cemented himself as a major player in not only the UK electronic music scene, but worldwide. As he rose in popularity throughout Europe, he garnered the respect and support of many big names such as David Guetta, Pete Tong, and Roger Sanchez among many others. Playing alongside talent like Afrojack, Congorock, and Tocadisco, Sharooz’s reputation as an artist and performer began to grow, landing him many opportunities for remixing some of electronic music’s most sought after artists. By the end of 2009, he had completed two US tours as well as gigs throughout all of Europe. Capitalizing on his rapid success, Sharooz launched his own record label, La Bombe, in 2010. In addition to his label, he co-founded Sample Magic alongside fellow producer, David Felton. Sample Magic is a sound design company that has won numerous awards for its samples and loops, including Remix Magazine’s Product of the Year award. He was kind enough to give me an opportunity to ask him a couple questions. Now to hear from the man himself:

Amazing high energy house dynamite, Hysteresis, was just released last month. This one needs to come with a Surgeon General's Warning. Buy it here, now.

Hysteresis by Sharooz

Beginning as a punk guitarist, how did you eventually make the transition into the underground electronic dance scene and how has your sound matured since your early days as a DJ? Who are your most prevalent influences?

I grew up in Belfast at the height of the political unrest. There were loads of random bombings and shootings. As a youth we naturally wanted to rebel against it all, so there was a thriving punk scene. We preferred the homegrown talents such as Stiff Little Fingers as opposed to the bigger bands. The punk scene eventually turned rave and I started sneaking in to see the likes of Carl Craig and Andy Weatherall every week. After a few years I got bored of Techno and got into Electro. Nowadays I'll listen (and play) from almost any genre as long as it serves the crowd well and makes people dance. I prefer to go by label rather than artist.

So here’s a scenario: You are commissioned to do a remix and inspiration strikes. What is your creative process and how do you go about making alterations until you have something you can call your own? What advice would you give to any fledgling producers out there just trying to get started?

If there's a vocal element normally I'll start with that and begin building a loop around it. Usually I don't listen to the original mix unless it's accidental. I try to use as many original parts as possible and program a whole new song or vibe. It's not exactly new advice, but for fledgling producers, putting bootlegs on Youtube and Soundcloud still garners huge attention, if the original rights holder doesn't ask you to take it down first..

I’ve noticed that you and Phonat have remixed each other’s work many times. Phonat is hands down one of Bright & Shiny’s favorite producers and I’d love to hear about your guys’ relationship and if we can expect any future collaborations.

I've known Michele (Phonat) since his first release. We shared the same label, Mofo Hifi, for many years and met through The Young Punx. He's probably my favourite artist in the world right now. I owe him a remix for Love Hits The Fan, which I didn't have time to do, so I'm itching for the opportunity to do something new for him. We actually did a co-write, alongside 5EYA, but the guys have been in Italy all year and we haven't had the chance yet to finish it. That could come out on La Bombe, so stay tuned!

Sharooz - 'Adrenalize' (Original Mix) by Sharooz

Sharooz - 'Adrenalize' (Phonat Remix) by Sharooz

You’ve done remixes for high profile names such as Robyn and Moby, in addition to many lesser known artists. Who has been your favorite artist to work with thus far and what other producers are you dying to get in the studio with?

I'm currently working on a remix for the French band Gush. I've been a massive fan for years. They blend Chanson with these amazingly intricate harmonies sung in English. It's been a real challenge as the original record is 98BPM but it's easily been my favourite track to work on in recent memory.

Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do (Mylo & Sharooz Mix) by robyn

Your label, La Bombe, has a small roster of fantastic artists. What was your process for finding these producers and did you play an integral part in shaping their skills and sound?

La Bombe has a very simple philosophy in that I just cherry pick my favourite artists (new and old) from browsing Soundcloud, Beatport charts, Facebook etc. There are so many talented producers out there seeking an outlet for their work, who fall under the radar of many of the bigger labels. We literally listen to everything we're sent and aggressively pursue those artists we see as having potential for our label. Our Soundcloud dropbox is checked for demos almost daily.

Lastly, what can we expect to see from Sharooz in 2011? Any up and coming remixes, collaborations, originals, tours, or new artists on the label?

I've just had approval on a remix of one of the biggest bands in the world. They've never been remixed so I can't give all details yet. But when it drops in March it'll be a very high profile release. I'm remixing Lazy Rich and Porter Robinson's new collab and also doing a 'Get Off' remix package with some of my favourite artists in tow. As far as La Bombe goes, we've just signed Opptimo for an album due for release in April and have new material from Swedish producer Blende and a second single from 5EYA in the works, all due in the next two months..

Time for more of that sensational tunage:

If you ever find yourself in a position where you need to make people dance, simply press the play button on this lethal remix. Dance they shall.

Peace Treaty - 'Cal State Anthem' (Sharooz Remix) by Sharooz

This next Sharooz remix is my absolutely favorite. The vocals are such an amazing compliment to the bass synth and the chord progression. I cannot get enough.

David E. Sugar - 'Fleamarket' (Sharooz's Last Daze of Disko Remix) by Sharooz

One of La Bombe's new recruits, 5EYA, has been featured here on Bright & Shiny before. I bring you Sharooz's sexy reinterpretation of an already intoxicating original.

Reset, Default, Automatic

Italian Broke One appears to be on a mission to bring back those old-school Chicago house sounds and vibes based on what I've been hearing from him recently. This remix he did of Evil Nine's "Auto" serves as a good example as he layers together a distant synth background over the originals vocals, adding in a hint of acid underneath it all.
Evil Nine - Auto (Broke One Remix)

We've posted about him before, and with "Pantera", Frenchman and Shiny Disco Club crew member Kartell has definitively paved a bassline heavy path straight to my heart. Smooth, sexy, and funky as fuck are all terms one might use to describe this jam. Save this one for the lady-friend.
Kartell - Pantera

I believe we posted the Laidback Luke mix of Carte Blanche's "Do! Do! Do!" a while back, but personally, I'm much more of a fan of what Strip Steve has decided to do with it. Heavy on the hi-hats and heavy on the bass, this one just begs you to dance along.
Carte Blanche - Do! Do! Do! (Strip Steve Jacked Up Remix)

I really don't know much about eSQUIRE aside from the fact that he's from the UK, but he's managed to give one of my absolute favorite Daft Punk songs a delectable thickness that would destroy any dance floor. Sounds like my kind of guy.
eSQUIRE vs. Daft Punk - High Life 2011

Alright so I'll switch gears here and bring you guys some harder stuff, beginning with a bomb from Bart B More. Admittedly, that's a term that gets thrown around a lot here when describing big tracks, but seriously, this is a bomb. Download it immediately and let it pulverize your sound system.
Bart B More - Gilles (Original Mix)

HolyshitSharooz. Unfortunately, that's all that's whats left of my brain is able to process after listening to the La Bombe label boss's latest release.
Sharooz - Hysteresis (Original Mix)

And to close things out, why not some good ol' reliable Chuckie. I mean seriously, you can always count on this guy to bring the heat, just as he does with this mix of Diddy's "I Hate That You Love Me". Although it's got more of a progressive sounding buildup and drop, it'll certainly do the trick.
Diddy - I Hate That You Love Me (Chuckie's Marquee Remix)

Lines and Form

An oldie but a goodie, I've been dropping this one in some of my dj sets recently to a pretty devastating effect. Between Tiga's bizarro lyrics and Mr. Oizo's crushing electro style, there's really nothing not to like in this one.
Tiga - Shoes (Mr. Oizo Remix)

Some diabolical electro-house here from Canada's own Torro Torro.
Torro Torro - Knockin' Boots (Original Mix)

Mylo and Sharooz give Robyn a funky electro makeover on this one. (Cudos to Patrick for finding it)
Robyn - Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do (Mylo & Sharooz Remix)

Mikix The Cat really seems to be on the up & up. This original track is a techy dancefloor melter that highlights his ability to make powerful dance music using just the bare essentials.
Mikix The Cat - Hot Block

A change of pace here with a delectable bit of french house. Kind of reminds me of Fred Falke. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of name WebQueawry is through.

Replicate

What's good everybody. Today's post will be somewhat of a sampler. I've got a smattering of nu-disco to set the mood, some prog house to lift you up, and some bangin' electro house and dirty dutch to smash you into oblivion. These songs will leave you about as satisfied as I am that I just used smattering in a sentence.

We'll start off with a nice little remix from an artist I've only recently become familiar with, but one I'll certainly be monitoring diligently in the future. I speak of none other than La Bombe label boss Sharooz. If you recall, I posted a killer edit he did of labelmate Opptimo's "Travellers" last post. I'll continue the magnificence with his remix of David Sugar's "Flea Market"

Mo' Sharooz.

Typical feel-good jam from Bit Funk. Although I didn't think it possible, the dude continues to exceed our expectations with his productions, garnering the love of the entire B&S crew. One needs only to skim through the history of our blog to see how much love we have for this guy.

Seriously uplifting synths define this stadium-filling tune from Max Vangeli and that other Angello, aka AN21. The aptly title "Swedish Beauty" comes off of the Size Matters compilation, which was mixed by the two Angello brothers.

Massssive remix from LA Riots. The duo have been flaunting a bit more of their big room side lately, and I can't say that I'm upset about it. I don't even want to think about the destruction this tune would cause if it were to be carelessly dropped in a live set...or maybe I do want to think about it.

Huge, gigantic, big, holy shiiiit, and where the fuck are my pants are all words I would use to describe the official release of Dutch madman Afrojack's Replica. Everything you've heard so far has been leading up to this guy, so pump up the volume, clear the room of all pregnant females and house pets, and press play. Then show the man some love by purchasing it here.

-PK.
