Welcome to Nineteen Ninety Twelve

After the shamanistic beat session that was Verboten in NYC the other night for new years, pretty much all I can think about is deep house. So that's what you're about to get. Not all these tracks are necessarily thaaat new, but I think they're all straight up great and I suspect after a listen you'll feel the same way too.

Allow me to introduce, Tanner Ross. An up and comer probably most famous for his "B Side / 4 U" release on Art Department's No. 19 label, the dude has a sultry and refreshing sound that seems like it belongs to someone well beyond his age. This first one, a collaboration with fellow bostonians Soul Clap came out on the legendary Wolf + Lamb imprint earlier this year - check the full EP on beatport.

Such a classic from 1/2 of Hot Chip, Joe Goddard. Simply delightful.

Worthy brings a UK bass twist to the deep end here, and with lyrics like this it's a track that seems hand crafted for eliciting pure peak time lunacy deep in the night on a dance flo. Get 'cho arithmetic  on.

Stay Classy,

Bright & Shiny Exclusive: Interview with Art Department

From their very inception, the Canadian duo Art Department have known success.  Individually, the two enjoyed a bit of it throughout the 90's and 00's as figures in the Toronto house and techno scenes.  But it was not until Johnny White and Kenny Glasgow came together to form Art Department that the two experienced the type of success one can only dream about.  Just a handful of months after joining forces, the two found themselves in Resident Advisor's prestigious Top 100 DJ's under their new moniker. [UPDATE 12/6: The RA Top 100 DJs of 2011 Poll has been released, ranking Art Department at 6 in the world.] A year later, their tune "Without You" was listed as RA's number one track of 2010: one of the highest honors in the dance music world.  A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with the duo following a soulful set at Chicago's Spybar. We talked about the live show they've currently got in the works, legendary prog-rock band "Yes," and the recent shenanigans of a one Steve Angello. Read this and more, plus some bonus Art Department sounds after the jump.

[GIVEAWAY] Bliss w/ Danny Daze & Tanner Ross at U Hall

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- This Saturday, Danny Daze (Hot Creations) is coming to U Street Music Hall, and he's bringing that funky Miami sound that we love so much with him.  I had the pleasure of witnessing such a cataclysmic event in Chicago just two weeks ago.  Daze had Augustus and I dancing 'til the club closed, dropping jam after jam until we couldn't dance anymore.  So bring your dancing shoes, and come close out your Thanksgiving break Bright & Shiny style to the bouncy sounds of Danny Daze. Oh yeah, and up-and-comer/total boss Tanner Ross (Wolf + Lamb/No. 19 Music) is gonna be there, plus hometown heroes Outputmessage (1/3 of Volta Bureau) and Lxsx Frxnk (Blisspop). In other words, DC is about to be shakin' like it's the War of 1812. Shit is real.

Did I mention we have the hookup? Grab yourself a pair of FREE TICKETS, as well as some bonus tracks you're liable to hear this Saturday, after the jump.
