All Along the watchtower

I've got a smattering of new releases from some high profile names today (although unfortunately jimi hendrix is not one of them), so buckle up and get ready for some seriously block rockin' beats.

I won't even try to explain this one. Siriusmo strikes gold yet again.
Siriusmo - Feromonikon (Original Mix)

This release has a much more underground feel to it than your typical Avicii track, but it's still an absolute stomper. The man has as versatile of production skills as just about anyone out there.
Avicii - Street Dancer (Original Mix)

Kind of reminds me of some Benny Bennassi a la 2006 (in a good way)
Sandro Silva - Yearbook (Original Mix)

Unfortunately on beatport you can only buy the release if you live in Germany... I wanted to get the Vocal Mix, but since I couldn't buy it i had to look around the internet for it and after some searching I could only find this original mix. Still, pretty damn good.
Duck Sauce - You're Nasty (Original Mix)

Like I said when I posted this on our twitter, "some straight old school ravey shit"
Mac Zimms - Strings & Synths (Dub Mix)

Sauces

Frenchman and Shiny Disco Club member Kartell lays down some serious funk with "La Jeunesse Retrouvée". This is baby-making music if nothing else; just don't ask me to pronounce that title..
Kartell - La Jeunesse Retrouvée

I happened upon this gem from Mix Chopin the other day. Though it's a bit old, the bassline and synthwork are simply too good to ignore, so check this out if you haven't before, or if you're unfamiliar with Chopin's filter-house goodness.
Mix Chopin - Ecliptic

House super-duo Duck Sauce attack Chromeo's "Hot Mess" in their latest remix, dropping a discotheque rockin' beat over some looped Elly Jackson vocals from the original. A-Trak and Van Helden prove time and time again with these releases that together, they can do no wrong.
Chromeo ft. Elly Jackson - Hot Mess (Duck Sauce Remix)

I've posted a track or two from these guys before and I've been even more impressed by the stuff I've checked out since then. These New Zealand bros are the real deal. So if you haven't already, add the name Chaos in the CBD to your music radar and look out for some more of their stuff here on B&S.
Blaze Tripp - San Fierro (Chaos in the CBD NZ Funky Refix)

We've ranted about Deadmau5 before, but "Limit Break", which he released for free on Christmas day, is a much needed return to form. With production reminiscent of earlier tracks like "The Reward is Cheese", this will literally knock you to the floor if you're not prepared for it. I strongly advise you to set yourself in a firm, athletic stance before that first drop; it's a doozy. Those of you who follow us on twitter already have this techno jameroo, but for those of you who don't, consider this a final warning: follow us on twitter, or else... you won't get all the cool stuff we put up there!
Deadmau5 - Limit Break

Good 2 You

Incase you missed it, we posted the download link for all of the songs from this week's Saturday Essential Mix below this post.

Laidback Luke
The crazy dutchman, who says his name comes from the classic Gin 'N Juice by Snoop Dogg, has been on a rampage recently, releasing all sorts electronic fire ready-made to destroy your speakers. I like how he's been able to distinguish himself from his numerous uber-talented countrymen by not sticking to the typical dutch sound, but rather by branching out in a whole bunch of directions to demonstrate the depth and versatility of his talent. This first track, a remix of Do! Do! Do! by Carte Blanche (aka DJ Medhi and Riton) and Kid Sister, demonstrates just how wide a range of sounds Mr Luke is easily able to synthesize together into a coherent whole. The song weaves between miami-vice-type upbeat house and relentless euro-electro. The result is a monstrous club banger that feels reminiscent of (my personal favorite Laidback luke song) MSTRKRFT - Heartbreaker (Laidback Luke Remix)

Carte Blanche feat. Kid Sister - Do! Do! Do! (Laidback Luke Remix)

This next track from Mr. Luke is a progressive house masterpiece and a perfect testament to how wide a range of skills he has. Look for this track to be destroying dancefloors all over the world this winter.
Laidback Luke feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn - Timebomb (Instrumental Mix)

Duck Sauce
Ever since my man Sir Real pointed out this awesome collaboration between Louis La Roche and Duck Sauce in one of La Roche's mixes two weeks ago, I've been desperately trying to find a copy of it because anything even remotely related to those two artists is worth my/your undivided attention. The song is as groovy as you would expect from Duck Sauce, but it has a distinct french-house/louis la roche touch to it that really makes it irresistible. After sifting through loads of crappy radio rips, I finally found a nice edit/refix that should hold you over until the release.
Duck Sauce - Good 2 Me (Louis La Roche Edit - Jamie What Easy2DJ Fix)

Alvaro
I don't know if you guys have heard the new Black Eyed Peas single, but it's surprisingly house-ey and enjoyable. They were some of the first pop artists to recognize and embrace the electronic revolution (they played at Ultra last year and Will.I.am is a frequent collaborator with man of the moment David Guetta), so I guess you have to give them some respect. Alvaro brings some dutch-style amplitude to this track, beefing up the airy house-synth section and introducing an explosive, monster drop to balance it out. The result is this song has something for everyone (a great weapon for any DJ).
Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit) (Alvaro Remix)

Classixx
I hopped in my man petey's car the other day, only to hear this relaxing and awesome remix of Buzzin' coming out of the speakers. I asked him what the song was, and I was surprised to learn it was a Classixx remix I hadn't heard of. Classixx are the bomb; something about their productions seems to have this warmth and lushness to it that's really unmatched by anyone. This track may not be new, but it's thoroughly incredible, so grab it below if you don't already have it.
Shwayze - Buzzin' (Classixx Remix)

DirtyLoud
A nice little electro thumper here courteousy of DirtyLoud. Can anyone tell me what old deadmau5 song is sampled extensively here?
Aerospace - Simple Words (DirtyLoud Remix)

God Damn It

First up: NEW DUCK SAUCE. That's right, Bright & Shiny favorites and disco-house master craftsmen Duck Sauce have a new track. Now, its far from released, but the new track, tentatively titled "Goody Two Shoes" can be spied around the 40-minute mark in an absolutely smashing mix done by Louis La Roche for Australian radio station Triple J. Mind you, the track played is a Louis La Roche edit, but it's still positively delectable. The tracklist for the mix can be found below.
Louis La Roche - Exclusive Triple J - Mix up - 16th Oct 2010 by louislaroche

Louis La Roche Triple J Mix Tracklist

  • Sekta – We Are All Free (Demo)
  • Benjamin Diamond – In Your Arms (Alan Braxe Mix)
  • Craig Hamilton – 12 Hour Soak
  • DJ Falcon – Untitled (Hijack Remix)
  • Roger 72 – Take Me Higher
  • Justin Faust – Holdin’ On (Nightriders Remix)
  • Vanguard – Long Beach
  • Stretch n Vern – I’m Alive 2010 (Louis La Roche Remix)
  • Swivel Hips – Cheaters
  • Louis La Roche – Gimme Gimme (Demo)
  • Duck Sauce – Good To Me (LLR Edit)
  • Lorenz Rhode – Motor Cortex
  • Louis La Roche – Malfunction
  • Abe Duque – What Happened?
  • Xinobi – Hawaii
  • Belgian Beer – Keep On Singin’ (Skingz Remix)
  • Paddywaggle – Could It Be Love (Demo)

While we're on the subject of disco house, here's some french house to whet the appetite. Champagne Records is at it again with what looks like a delectable release from Bright & Shiny up-and-coming favorites Dom & Le Batman. This is just a one long preview of the whole EP, so I don't have a favorite yet, but I will say that the drums on the Jay Wesley remix are straight SILLY. The EP is out November 20th on Champagne Records.
[CHAMP 005] Dom & Lebatman - Isabelle EP [TEASER] by Champagne Records

Moar french house. Brand new jam from the Phantom's Revenge called "Charlie" which samples one of the greatest shows ever to grace your television set, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
The Phantom's Revenge - Charlie

the Clubhaus

Crazy stupid electro from Joachim Garraud. Watch out for your face 'cause your neck may inadvertently start smashing it into blunt objects without your permission.
Fuzzy Hair - Ilike (Joachim Garraud Remix)

Deniz Koyu brings us such an acidic track that it almost verges on trance. Your guido friends will loove this one. Props to DJ Ruthy from the Easy Love Records blog for this one.
Deniz Koyu - Milton and the Nodheads (Original Mix)

Electric Zoo: Day 2

12:45 pm: Grum

Grum was incredible. I (Patrick) was the only one of the Bright&Shiny crew to make it to this early afternoon performance and I'm so glad that I did. Grum has been one of my favorite producers for quite a while now with his funky disco dance bass lines and genius remixes. Originality just oozes from this man. As he was strolling through the crowd after his set, I was lucky enough to be able to stop him and have a little chat. Quiet and reserved, he was kind enough to sign the cover of his new EP (I Can't Shake This Feeling) that I had picked up at the merchandise stand before his performance. Needless to say, I love him and everything he does.

5:00 pm: Moby

Moby was cool. He chose a really old school rave track list and threw in some remixes of his own classics like Porcelain. I realized about 10 minutes in that he was using the exact same track list from one of his DJ sets a year ago, but I didn't mind 'cause it was virtually a perfect track selection anyway. Here are some of our favorites from it.

6:30 pm: Boys Noize

[Sir Real's screen name] (4:59:14 PM): how unremarkable was boys noize
[Augustus' screen name] (5:02:23 PM): yeah i thought he was being too like industrial and austerely crazy german for my likes
[Augustus] (5:02:44 PM): i usually dont like being assaulted like that when im fuzzily ENJOYING MYSELF [CONTENT CENSORED]
[Augustus] (5:03:00 PM): he was being mean

[Note: We LOVE Boys Noize, his set at Electric Zoo just didn't do anything to build upon his legend]

8:30 pm: A-Trak

So stupid. This man can cut like none other... literally, considering he won DMCs World DJ Championship in 1997 at age 15. Not only was this man scratching like the world champ that he is, he was dropping the heat left and right. A-Trak is by all regards a first rate DJ in any situation and seems to be most at home when spinning house. Plus, he announced that "Barbara Streisand" is due out October 4th! Not that we here at Bright & Shiny don't already have it for you in full 320 kbps quality... so sneaky. Here are the tracks I was together enough to write down from the set, all of which KILLED on the Red Bull Music Academy set up.
Jack Beats - Out Of Body

A-Trak - Loonies To Blow

Rogerseventytwo - Take Me Higher

Duck Sauce - Barbara Streisand (MAMIHLAPINATAPAI!)

9:30 pm: John Digweed

The deepest of the deep, John Digweed is a librarian of excellence in dance music. We had the opportunity to see Steve Aoki or Armin van Buuren during this time slot but chose instead to close out our experience at the Zoo with Mr. Digweed. I didn't even know any songs from the set because it was so deep (although there are a couple at the bottom, here), but it was goood and cleansed the soul with its minimal, bassy grooves. I had heard that this man was a legend and now I know why. If you ever have the opportunity to see John Digweed throw down I advise that you do so with haste.

Day 1 Wrap Up:

Axwell was dirty and functioned as the whole of Swedish House Mafia by dropping tons of SHM tracks including the amazing Miami 2 Ibiza. While my colleagues enjoyed the latter half of Benny Benassi, I (Patrick) couldn't resist heading over to catch some of this show. Axwell/SHM never do disappoint after all.

I'm baaaack

Sorry for the lapse between today and my last post, but my brief time off has given me the chance to snag some great new tunes for you all. Today's post is gonna be a bit of mix-up. I've got songs you can groove to and songs you can snooze to. And songs that will melt your face. Enjoy.

Anything bearing either A-Trak's name or Armand Van Helden's is something to check out immediately. Together, it's almost too much. The two have combined forces recently under the moniker Duck Sauce to produce some incredible house. Look out for them in the future.

Duck Sauce - aNYway

Duck Sauce - You're Nasty

Toro Y Moi continues to produce the most chill-inducing sounds one can find on the internet

Toro y Moi - Low Shoulder

More Miami Horror is always a good thing. I love it when these guys play with that disco house style.

Miami Horror - Holidays

Ocelot's been pumping out some serious dance tunes recently, this is no exception. Check out their EP: Our Time

Ocelot - Vincent's Theme removed by request

So here's the part where you need to make sure your brain is securely fastened to the inside of your skull.

Luciana, Sydney Samson, and Itakuba - I Like That (Spryte Bootleg)

Break this out at your next party. Watch what happens.

Kid Sister - Right Hand High (Riton Vocal Rub)

One doesn't necessarily associate Bag Raiders with big club room bangers. Thanks Harvard Bass!

Bag Raiders - Way Back Home (Harvard Bass Remix)

There you go.

Piano Stabs

PK and I love piano stabs. Your mother loves piano stabs. I can't speak for the rest of America but the entire nation loves piano stabs. Whenever I hear piano stabs my head whips toward the direction of the sound and I pay rapt attention to whatever is making music. This form of synthetic piano excellence has been a fundamental part of house music since the advent of the Korg M1 synthesizer and enhanced the quality of life around the globe with its beautifully abrupt, huge, plasticky chords. I don't think I'll ever get enough in my diet.

This Tom Piper & Nom De Strip remix is a shining example of pounding stab usage with Dizzee's signature consistently filthy flow over top.
Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Cash (Tom Piper & Nom De Strip Remix)

A 2008 classic from Surkin exhibiting some gorgeous rolling piano stabs.
Surkin - White Knight Two

BONUS!!

Bump this shit.
Surkin - White Knight Two (Orgasmic Mix ft. Teki Tek & Cuizinier)

Now here is a man who knows his way around some piano noise. When the raps start this song goes OFF.
MC Flipside - In The Zone (Bart B More Vocal Mix)

2009 house anthem from the Swedish House Mafia boys and Laidback Luke.
Axwell/Angello/Ingrosso/Laidback Luke ft. Deborah Cox - Leave The World Behind (Original Mix)

the Clubhaus

I almost put this in the main body of the post but this track is simply nonsensical. The most destructive use of piano stabs to date.
Heartbreaker - MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend (Laidback Luke Remix)

Fake Blood's first release given the dancefloor treatment by Herve. Do as the nice man says and "get on the floor if you got that booty."
Fake Blood - Mars (Exclusive Herve Re-Fix)

The sound quality is abominable but this original is too good not to share. The drums and arrangement blow those of all of the remakes out of the water, as is to be expected from the likes of A-Trak and Armand van Helden. If this song is ever released that day will be declared a national holiday.
Ducksauce - Barbara Streisand (Original Mix)(224 kbps)

Have a lazy Sunday.

Shall we?

I, Patrick, have returned in order to supply you with the best tunes around. Speaking of which, you should probably all pay me for what I'm about to bestow upon you... But that can be discussed after you download each and every one of these songs:

Let's start this off with some energy. Get up, stand up, now dance.

We're gonna slow it down for the next 3 min. and 55 sec. with a groovetastic original track

This is a song composed by Holy Ghost! covered by Friendly Fires ft. the DFA celestial choir. Honestly, what more could you possibly ask for?

It's not Saturday night yet, but when that time rolls around you're gonna want this song on hand.

I was never a Killers fan, but this remix really gives you the full synth treatment that you so deserve. Now smile like you mean it.

This string laden symphony of a song tosses in a little grit for the perfect blend of sweetnsour.

I saved the best for last: Bit Funk, despite his handicap of being a Canadian in US borders, really has his stuff together. Funkfunkay bassline + cats = better than you (check out the vid below)

And once again, never ever forget:

Love, Patrick
