Liftin'

Vassup y'aaaal. Vancouver based U-Tern, whom you may know as one half of nu-disco outfit Oliver, was kind enough to release this collaboration with AJK for free via soundcloud...Gods be praised. With a  rolling and rollicking synth line filling the area between reverberated rimshots and punchy low-end percussion, this one seems appropriate for all times and places, whether you're just lounging at the crib or in the midst of a frenzied dancefloor. Give it a listen below.
  U-Tern & AJK - Side Ways by U-Tern

And speaking of Oliver, peep the sampler for their upcoming "Dirty Talk" EP below as well. Featuring remixes from the likes of Wax Motif and Punks Jump Up, it doesn't look like one to miss.
Oliver - Dirty Talk (Kitsuné EP Sampler) by weareoliver

Though the title of this one from UK duo Audiojack urges the listener to "Get Serious", frankly thats the last thing I can do when I hit that play button. A seriously uplifting number, those chords in the breakdown, immediately followed by bouncy and playful tom and kick work, could not have me feeling higher. Give it a listen and see what I mean.

Audiojack - Get Serious

I'm not sure how Mercury haven't blown the fuck up yet, as their take on soulful, bass driven house music is too refreshing and unique to ignore. I've always been a sucker for vocal chops, but in "You Lift Me Up", it's the percussion that sets it off. It has a very retro feel to it for sure, but with modern flourishes that'd have it at home in any respectable club today.
Mercury - You Lift Me Up

The Mercury boys, in keeping with the holiday spirit, also released this edit of Marvin Gaye's classic "Sunny" for free on their soundcloud. Listen and download below, and be sure to show them some love.

Everything Under The Sun

A warm mix of UK style bass with some fizzly, floating synth pads, this next track is one of the purest and undeniably good things I've come across in a while. I first came across it in Friendly Fires' Resident Advisor podcast (which was absolutely ace) and immediately had to stop listening and refer to the tracklist to find out what exactly I was hearing. Scope the full release from Hot Chip's Greco Roman label on Beatport here.
Download: Hackman - Your Face Pulling My Hair (Original Mix)

Maceo Plex doing what he does best here; slowed-down, sexed-up house replete with some throbbing analog synths. Another top release from a 2011 that saw him rightfully entering RA's top 100 djs list at #5. Oh and that reminds me, be on the lookout for our upcoming top 50 tracks of 2011 list that should be coming out in the next few days, I don't want to give too much away but you can definitely expect some Maceo Plex on there. Also be sure to check out the Eats Everything remix of this track.
Download: Laura Jones - Love In Me (Maceo Plex Remix)

Awesome Big Room electro house. 'Nuff said.
Download: Rihanna - Where Have You Been (Mercer Remix)

Our friends over at Volta Bureau sent us this dance dub of their single "Hope" the other day and needless to say I was immediately smitten with it after just one listen. Clean, swinging percussion, some dreamy piano cuts and a massive, analog-sounding synth line to top it all off. What more could you ask for? For all things Volta Bureau be sure to head over to their Facebook Page.
Download: Volta Bureau - Hope (Volta Bureau Dub)

Can't wait for this release. I'm sure this is a track that will be destroying Miami all spring this year.

Dub Like A Child

Found this one on the suggestion of a producer friend of mine who consistently seems to have spot on taste. The percussion here is impeccable. Long live Scuba.
Download: Scuba - Adrenaline (Original Mix)

The B side of Maya Jane Coles' recent "Don't Put Me In Your Box" EP, Dub Child shows Maya Jane at her absolute best. A track that's at once deep enough to suck you in and bubbly enough to keep you dancing for hours, Dub Child is a keeper for sho. Be sure to grab the whole EP on beatport, since the other 3 tracks are equally as quality.
Download: Maya Jane Coles - Dub Child (Original Mix)

Globus is a song I've been meaning to post for a while now. Off of SCNTST's debut release on Boys Noize Records, it's a track that really encapsulates the youngster's unique sound (dude is 17). Boys Noize himself once described SCNTST's emerging style as "that new german juke" - I'm not quite sure what this means, but after listening to this track I'm sure you'll agree that's what it sounds like.

A Bright & Shiny Christmas

Meeerrrryy Christmas. Joyeux noel. Frohe Weihnachten. Feliz navidad. Even though it's a little late, it seems only natural that we celebrate this holiday the only way we know how to celebrate anything here at Bright & Shiny - with lots and lots of pounding techno music. Just a note - these are not happy go lucky Christmas tracks, these are massive pieces of electronic destruction, most of which will probably best suit you during the new years eve madness that's about to be upon us. Happy holidaze.

Up first is the latest magic from up and coming producer and Bright & Shiny homeboy Ekstra, and let me say this one REALLY thumps. A mix of pounding tech house with a hard dutch electro edge, 'Forte' simply has festival madness written all over it. If you like what you're hearing, be sure to show him some love over on his Facebook page and grab the exclusive Bright & Shiny download HERE.
  Forte (Original Mix) by Ekstra

Also, check this sneak peak of one of his latest projects, I can't wait to hear the final version of this one. Straight ridiculous.

Another great track from some of our favorite up and coming producers, this time from LA based duo (one half of whom runs the awesome DSCOtech) No Body, this is far and away the best remix of Dada Life's gargantuan single Happy Violence that I've come across yet. Nothing else even comes close. See (hear) for yourself below, and make sure you hit up their soundcloud for all things No Body.
Download: Dada Life - Happy Violence (No Body Remix)

We never got around to giving you guys our full HARD Haunted mansion review, but if there's one thing you should know it's that Paul Chambers absolutely stole the show. The dude brought a party full of  face-melting electrons like few other people I've ever seen. One of the craziest parts of his performance was this remix of the ZZT anthem Partys Over Los Angeles, which he actually talked about on his twitter he just finished like the day before HARD haunted, specifically for that festival. Feeling the Christmas spirit, Turbo Records gave it away for free the other day. Grab it below.
Download: ZZT - Partys Over Los Angeles (Paul Chambers Remix)

This track is one that I have a hard time finding words to explain. Upon first listen, it might not seem like much, but if you hear it blasting out of some proper speakers at full volume, this one is straight lunacy. The repeating (wood block?) percussion hits sew together a vicious groove that seems ripe for any underground dance party deep in the AM. Don't sleep on this one.
Download: Alex Jones - Shoe Of The Year (Original Mix)

The recent debut "Be As One" EP from mystery duo BS1 on  BNR Trax is one of the most well rounded and dangerous dancefloor-oriented releases I've come across in a while. The EP features four different tracks, all of which have slightly varying flavors but feature a unifying retro-futuristic take on techno that seems right at home on Boys Noize's label. All of the songs manage to bring together moments of spacious, pad filled beauty somewhat reminiscent of Julio Bashmore's best work along with straight relentless and pounding beats that Boys Noize himself would be proud to call his own. Here's two of the tracks off the release, but scope the whole thing on Beatport. It's well worth the money.
Download: BS1 - Nothing But U (Original Mix)

Download: BS1 - Be As One (Original Mix)

Top notch work as always from Canadian youngsters Prince Club. Keep an eye on these two. Beatport for the full release.
Download: Prince Club - Love Strong (Original Mix)

Bonus Presents
Download: Michael Calfan - Ressurrection (Axwell's Recut Club Version)

To the Rhythm

Somehow I just discovered Croatian DJ/Producer Mladen Solomun in the last couple of months. To put it simply, this guy knows what is good. I don’t think I’ve listened to a track of his that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. I meant to post some more of his music along with the Noir & Haze remix I posted a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t fit them in. So here are couple more, of what I’m sure will be many, Solomun jams. The first one, a remix of So Phat!, is well, just that: phat. The second is a tech house monster I first heard in a Sven Väth video so you know it’s legit.

Download: So Phat! – A Love Bizarre (Solomun Remix)

Download: Solomun - Sisi

I’m back with another Wildkats song. This time the Brits edit Daft Punk’s “Face to Face” off the classic Discovery album. They’re giving it away too, so snag it here.
Whats Goin On - (Daft Punk Edit) - Free Download by WILDKATS

The Swiss house crusaders, Round Table Knights, never fail to get the people clappin’ on the dance floor. This Monkey Safari remix is surely a testament to that (hint: more cowbell is the secret ingredient). Grab it on beatport tomorrow when it gets released.
Monkey Safari - Kiss The Birds (Round Table Knights Remix) by Round Table Knights

It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from Sharooz, but just yesterday I stumbled upon this new track called Persistence of Time. His typical mayhem infused electro has returned and leaves you wondering why you were just repeatedly smashing your head against the wall. I’m not sure when this track will drop, but I’ll make sure to keep a look out. In the meantime check out our interview with him for an overview of all that is Sharooz.

Earlier this month Treasure Fingers did the mix of the week for Mixmag. It’s a private mix on soundcloud so I can’t share it directly, but do yourself a favor and GET TO IT HERE. Tracklisting is available in the description and you can download it FO’ FREE! If you have any previous experience with the sound of Ashley Jones then you already know what it iz yo. Dive in.

The last song off the Treasure Fingers mix is a Dublin Aunts remix of the Australian band Jubilants. Some great bass lines and guitar riffs in there.

Disclosure + Moda Mix

The brothers Lawrence, better known as Disclosure, first caught my eye when their track "My Intention Is War!" was featured prominently in SBTRKT's phenomenal Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1. Since then, I've been completely smitten with their updated and positively joyous approach to UK Garage.  This same disposition effaces itself in this bouncing mix they recently did for Moda, the party-starting outfit founded by Radio 1's Jaymo & Andy George. No tracklist, unfortunately, but that just adds a little mystery. Be sure to grab their absolutely tops FREE debut EP here.

Cause it's good

I actually can't believe it took me this long to find this track, considering it was made by DC local boys Benoit & Sergio (one of whom actually used to be a high school english teacher that taught kids i know.. kind of awesome considering the lyrics are "my baby does K all day" hahaha). Released earlier this year on Seth Troxler's Visionquest Label, though, "Walk and Talk" is definitely one of the most interesting songs I've come across in a while. It manages to put together a bunch of seemingly disparate elements into a really cohesive whole, almost like Chemical Brothers meets Maceo Plex in a way. Scope the whole EP on beatport here.
Download: Benoit & Sergio - Walk and Talk (Original Mix)

Here's another great Benoit  & Sergio track, this time a really chilled out and beach-ready remix of the Friendly Fires.
Download: Friendly Fires - Hurting (Benoit & Sergio Remix)

I know this one came out ages ago, but honestly I've been blasting it on repeat lately and for some reason just can't get enough of it. Bingo Players at their best here. FYI, if you ever get a chance to see the Bingo Players live, do it. These dudes go straight mental when they're behind the decks. Beatport It.

Brace for it

Up first is Angger Dimas' most recent single, Kitchen, which was released recently on Laidback Luke's Mixmash imprint. This is one I've been waiting to get my hands on for a while, and that's because 'Kitchen' is a bit like that kitchen drawer everyone has in their house where it seems like everything's been all stuffed into one place. Dutch house meets big room madness meets Dimas' own crazed indonesian twist on techno.. in other words, this one bangs.
Download: Angger Dimas - Kitchen (Original Mix)

Lone has long been high up there on our list of producers who seem like they've taken the game of dance music to that next level - that place where it's no longer about just making people move, it's about making something beautiful; it's about art. To that end, his 'Echolocations' EP from last spring was nothing short of perfection. I recently stumbled upon this older track he did and like the mix name suggests and the 90s vocal samples back up, this one has enough thumping drums and various booty shaking elements to fit into any warehouse-type DJ set, but don't let that fool you. Analog synths and floating pads weave in and out around each other here in ways that only a master could orchestrate, and it just goes to show again that Lone just might actually be on another level from everyone else.
Download: Lone - Pineapple Crush (Manchester Warehouse & VIP Mix)

Bonus
Download: Strange Talk - Sexual Lifestyle (Reset! Turbofunk Remix)

Just a side bar - I'm in love with the original of this song

Sounds from the Cloud

I uploaded this classic to our soundcloud about a week ago, and those of you who already are following us on our twitter (@Br1ghtshiny) already had a chance to grab this one. Stick to Your Name, Stick to The Game

If you can successfully sample Express Yourself by N.W.A. and put it on a house beat, you have my vote. The three man group composed of England's Corey Baker and Scott Dickie and U.S.'s Stuart Sandeman has received praise from the likes of Wolf + Lamb and Crosstown Rebles over the last year for their work. The Wildkats throw it down on this one and keep it smooth.
Wildkats – Perpetrating

Joris Voorn takes Moby’s original, ‘After’, and lightens up the mood a bit. He takes a much more club and dance friendly approach, adding a rolling bassline and an energetic rhythm. Piano stabs are always good too. Honestly I hear little in common between this and the original, but I am not one to question, just to listen. Grab this one on beatport here, it was just released yesterday.
Joris Voorn, Moby – After the After [Stream Only]

Ali Love recently teamed up with Luca C to form Infinity Ink. This song, recently released on super-label Hot Creations, has garnered notable attention, being featured on multiple DJ charts and mixes. Ali’s vocals always seem to do the trick (see ‘Do It Again’ by the Chemical Brothers and ‘Forward Motion’ by Hot Natured) and the groove he and Luca C developed is unstoppable. Show the two some love and buy it on beatport.
Infinity Ink – Games

Nathaniel X
is here to bring house music back on the map, so he proclaims at the beginning of his 2010 Resurrxion E.P. He calls out all the digital mp3 DJs calling them mp3js instead, while promoting his immortal vinyl. Real talk. “Easy listenin underground, deep jazz chords, and a smooth bassline with a danceable rhythm.” What more could you possibly ask for?
Nathaniel X – My Love is Underground (RIP 160kbps)

Bonus:

Alex Kenji – Something About You

Bingo Players vs. Chocolate Puma – Touch Me

I’ll leave you with this absolutely stellar mix by B&S homeboys Brodinski and Gesaffelstein. My first take on this was that it was uncharacteristically mellow. Not to say this doesn’t go hard, maybe they’ve just pushed the limits of my musical tastes that far, but they manage to mix through so many different sounds so well that it blurs some genre boundaries. I really hope these two keep collaborating. Shout out to my friend Ben for showing me this. Partial track list can be found here.
BRODINSKI & GESAFFELSTEIN - DJ Set @ Laura Leishman Project sur Le Mouv' by llplemouv

More Gesaffelstein! When I’m old and going crazy I’ll have to blame him for at least half of my mental problems. Listening to this guy’s techno as a young adult has got to have an effect on my long-term health. Anyways, enjoy…
Gesaffelstein – Atmosphere

The Most of All Time

It's the middle of finals week at my university and honestly I'm getting absolutely pummeled right now. All I can think about is how much I wish I could just be kicking it somewhere like the picture above, but alas I'm mired in seemingly endless amounts of work. Luckily, LA based producer Urulu has the answer. His newest 'Untitled' EP, which he released for free on monday, is one of the most relaxing, groove-filled things to hit my ears in a long time. Did I mention that it's free? Untitled 01 and Untitled 03 are especially soothing, while Untitled 02 has a bit of a techier edge. They're definitely all worth checking out, and if you like what you hear be sure to send some love over to his Facebook page.

Now for some stuff on the more energetic side of the spectrum, first up I have a recently released Digitalism track that  I haven't been able to get enough of lately. It's Digitalism…remixing Digitalism…and sounding like classic Digitalism. In other words, it's fucking awesome. Recently they'd moved away from their creative approach to electro in favor of a a poppier sound, but this shows them connecting without their glorious 2007-era Idealism roots. Check the whole EP on Beatport for some other dope remixes by Eric Prydz and Jeremy Olander as well.
Download: Digitalism - Circles (Digitalism Remix)

Next up is a pumping remix of Dirty South and Thomas Gold's 'Alive.' I have to be honest I wasn't as crazy about the original track as some people were when it first came out, but DC local Das Nibley takes it to a new level here with a really smooth reworking that starts fast and keeps the energy up all the way until the end. If you like what you hear (which I know you will), make sure to head over to his facebook page to stay up to date on all things Das Nibley.

Marble Players

Marble Players is a relatively new record label that represents the lovechild of three legendary producers: Surkin, Para One, and Bobmo.  Based out of Paris, France, Marble Players was born out of the unfortunately retired Institubes Records which closed its figurative doors on March 16th of this past year.  With a fresh outlook on life and big big plans, Marble Players is breaking onto the scene in a special way.  They are all inclusive in terms of collaboration and cooperation and aim to pioneer new music in the most innovative ways they can find.  Other than the three top dogs, the names currently signed to the label include High Powered Boys (Bobmo + Surkin), Canblaster (Club Cheval), and MYD; although they have done releases for several other artists like Das Glow, Sam Tiba, and Teki Latex.  Sample some of their sounds below and be sure to keep an eye out for this dream team in the months to come.

First up is remix done by the whole fam that has a great "late-night" feel to it.  Uploaded to the Marble Players SoundCloud about a month ago... these are the kind of gratifying sounds you can hear emerging from their studio.
Koyote - Night Train (Marble Players Remix)

Next up is a soothing piece of music that flows effortlessly out of your speakers.  I know I'm a sucker for chopped vocals and energetic percussion, but this track is just plain good any way you cut it.

This next one is nice and free for the taking.  Das Glow, old friend and collaborator of Para One, put together this nice little mix.  He recently teamed up with Para One for a Marble Players release featuring two stellar tracks: Freeze and Pulsar.  Check out Pulsar below the mix for some extra material.

Eats Everything + Essential Mix

Not to toot our own horn or anything, but ever since we here at Bright & Shiny got wind of the uprising being staged in the English city of Bristol, we've been posting, and posting, and posting about it. We simply cannot get enough of the futuristic bass-infused house sounds pouring out of the place, and that's due in no small part to the fine work of Dan Pearce, AKA Eats Everything.  You see, Pearce has a strange affliction which makes him prone to eat everything, and this shows in his productions.  His work pays homage to house and bass-music greats as often as it does to R&B stars of the '90s and early 2000's (a venerable golden age for pop music), like Jagged Edge and Faith Evans. In short,

Eats Everything is putting the black back in house music.

Since this past spring, his tracks have seen release on Berlin's Pets Recordings and San Fransisco's dirtybird Recordings, with more to come. In addition to being an ace producer, Pearce is an equally talented DJ, peppering his mixes with exclusive 'beefy' reworks that you'll only hear at his hands. So it comes as no surprise that Pete Tong, being the tastemaker that he is, commissioned our friend Eats Everything for an Essential Mix, which aired last Saturday on BBC Radio 1. Recorded live at Bristol In:Motion, the mix is a particularly energetic entry into the series' hallowed halls, and is chock full of exclusive Eats Everything edits and unreleased tracks you're likely to only hear here. So give it a spin and, as always, don't forget to turn up the volume! Tracklist & bonus tunes after the jump.
