Mondo Grab Bag: Mega Post

Sorry for the weeklong absence from posting! Wish we had a good excuse for you, but really it's just the middle of the summer and we're all overly distracted with enjoying ourselves. But fear not, for I think I have a way to make it up to you all. That's right: A Mega Post. After a couple less than multi-faceted posts from yours truly - meaning, I've been posting lots of straight big room progressive house - not that there's anything wrong with that, but, today I've decided that you all are deserving of a more thoroughly varied selection of tunes. So, I've brought with me a smattering of bangin' jams from all across the musical spectrum and assorted them accordingly, starting with the progressive sounds, moving into some deeper stuff, and rounding it all out at the end with a tasteful selection of thumpin' techno and electro-house (and even a little french rap thrown in there to mix things up). Enjoy.

The Progressive
GTA's latest single can be classified as nothing less than a straight up bomb. We posted the monster Laidback Luke remix a while ago, but today I have for you the original mix from the Miami based duo. U & I features gorgeous vocals from Zashanell, and a thumping electro-style of progressive house that seems fit to destroy any and all dancefloors. Check it below, and be sure to grab the release on Beatport.

The good people from PIE Artists also sent us over this promo recently, featuring a sneak peek of Van Toth(1/2 of GTA)'s newest single. The drop on this one is absolutely mental.. look for the release coming Aug. 9th

For those of you not in the know, allow me to introduce: Max Vangeli. A member of Steve Angello's Size Record Label, Vangeli has been steadily making a name for himself as one of the more promising up-and-coming superstars in progressive house. I personally have a special appreciation for him since he was at one point a student at UCSB, the college which I currently attend. You might remember him from his part in the world dominating Steve Angello & AN21 & Max Vangeli Remix of The Island.. Anyway, check out this well put together and informative mini-documentary of him, anything else I could say about him is pretty comprehensively covered in this short film:

Here are a couple bombs Produced by Vangeli himself. You'll notice a couple of them involve AN21. AN21, for those of you not in the know, is Steve Angello's little brother, Antoine Angello. Anyway, he and Vangeli seem to have a really good creative and working relationship, because they've teamed up for a fair amount of anthems. Check some of them below, starting with their recently released remix of the Swedish House Mafia single, Save The World. The Zedd Remix is pretty dope, but I'd say right now for me this Vangeli & AN21 mix is definitely the best out there.

A classic by AN21 & Vangeli that was featured on Steve Angello's Size Matters 2 Compilation.

Also here's a great Late Night Alumni remix that showcases Vangeli's prowess at making spacious, gorgeous progressive house. This is a track that, as the original artist's name would suggest, is perfect for late nights.

Next up is a recently released bomb from dutch star Hardwell. The World EP was released on his own label, Revealed Records. The track progresses from a techy intro into a nice borderline-trancey breakdown around halfway through and then back again to the techy, dutch beats  Hardwell's become known for. The result is a really well rounded club monster. Surgeon General's warning: For maximum effect, play at full volume.

The Deeper Side
Maya Jane Coles, as you all are probably aware by now, has quickly become one of our favorites here at Bright & Shiny with her irresistible brand of mystically-layered deep house. The track I have for you today further demonstrates why she's one of the artists worth looking out for right now, since it seems like everything she's been putting out these days is consistently phenomenal. Buy the release on Beatport: HERE

This Tensnake Remix is, without a doubt, the grooviest and most undeniably catchy retro-house track that I've heard in a long time. It should be no surprise to anyone by now that Tensnake is responsible for yet another track that can be described as nothing short of amazing. Every time I hear this one  though, I get struck by a memory from a week or two ago when me and Sir Real were cruising around NYC on a gorgeous and sunny day absolutely blasting it out of my car speakers with all the windows down. We pulled up to a stop light in SOHO and happened to look to our left, at which point we noticed a bookish, reserved looking girl on a bench next to us. She picked her head up to look around, clearly confused by the loud noises suddenly invading the air around her, the look on her face conveying that she was puzzled by what exactly it was that she was hearing. As soon as she realized  what she was listening to though, she instantly instantly started bobbing her head with a huge grin on her face (she even gave us a thumbs up! hahaha). A perfect testament to the fact this track is absolutely incredible, something anyone with a mild taste for good music can feel within one listen. Just wait for the masterfully groovy drop around the 3:00 mark. Play this one as loud and with as much bass as possible to really feel it. [Beatport Release]

Next up is a thumpin' track that falls on the deeper end of the tech-house spectrum. Deetron, the genius producer out of Switzerland who you may recognize from his various collaborations with detroit techno madman Seth Troxler, is back here with Starblazer,  a beautifully melded concotion of sounds that centers itself around an awesome tribal beat coupled with with a soothing selection of exotic samples. Have one listen and you'll understand why this gem is currently sitting pretty at number 5 on Beatport's top 100 chart.

The Assorted
For the assorted section, I'm going to start things off with some absolutely mental techno, since I think that's something I've gotten away from giving you guys recently. Gesaffelstein's newest EP, Conspiracy pt.2 is, in my mind, one of the most forward thinking and impressive EP's to drop in a long time. He takes the bpm as low as the 100-110bpm range on some of these tracks, and still manages to pack them with more energy, emotion, and sheer power than most songs that pound along at way faster paces. Opr and Viol are both simply insane, but in the best way possible. Keep an eye out for Gesaffelstien's upcoming USA tour in the fall, starting with his performance at HARD Summer on August 6th, which Bright & Shiny will most definitely be in attendance for. Be sure to cop the whole EP off of Beatport: HERE

Next up is an awesome slice of electro from Santa Barbara based producer Sam Luria, better known as Charles I. You may recognize the gorgeous voice of Gold Lamay from the other Charles I anthem, Simple State of Mind. The two of them make quite the team together if you ask me.
Download: Charles I feat. Gold Lamay - Out Of This World (Original Mix)

I don't know what the appetite for french rap is amongst the readership of Bright & Shiny, but recently I was reading one of the Cool Cats blogs and amongst the tons of really interesting stuff was a little blurb about a french rap group called 1995. I checked out some more of their stuff, and stumbled upon this next song which I've really taken a liking to. Despite taking like 10 years of french in school, I can still only understand like 1/3 of what they're saying hahaha. But I still find it super enjoyable, and I think you will too. This is a really chill summer jam.
Download: 1995 - Je Brille (feat. Sabrina)

Shinichi Osawa seems to be pumping out a lot of bangers right now. This collaboration with Beautacue is absolute lunacy, have a listen for your self. Also peep the video below for a preview of Shinichi's forthcoming Singapore Swing collaboration EP with Paul Chambers (who you may remember for his epic track Yeah, Techno). The EP dropped today in Japan, look for the North America release coming this week.

Wait for the drop after the 3:20 mark on this one. Only one word to describe it. HUGE.
Download: Grum - Fashion (Dolby Anol faux pas Remix)

We recently received this awesome EP Promo from Australian indie-dance outfit All The Lights. While I think all the tracks on the EP are pretty great, for me it's the Ian Carey Remix that steals the show. The progressive drop after the 2:00 minute mark really does it for me. Check out the original as well as all the remixes below, and be sure to look out for the official release on Ministry of Sound August 12th.
All The Lights - Chasing Colours by AllTheLights

One more Bangin' promo we received in the mail, check this preview for Tate Strauss' upcoming remix. This track is, uhm, how do you say.. MASSIVE. Apparently It's already received support from heavyweights like Tiesto and Tristan Garner. I don't think there's an official release date slated yet, but definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Just in case you haven't had enough promos of unreleased stuff, check this brand new unreleased Alex Metric track. This one is, for lack of a better word, a monster.  The name 'Raveageddon' is pretty fitting. Can't wait for the official release. Via GottaDanceDirty

Last but certainly not least, be sure to grab this jackin' and straight bonkers Bingo Players mix of the Spanish House maestro Wally Lopez's recent release, Welcome Home. This one sounds simply unreal flying out of a proper soundsystem. Highly Recomended. [Beatport Release]

Stay Classy,
